Mighty Mike to retain Premier League title

Darts Betting

The new Premier League Darts season starts up in early February with the first round of matches coming on February 2nd. That opening night of the new season comes from the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle and the feature matches of that opening night will be Phil Taylor v Dave Chisnall and the heavyweight clash of Gary Anderson v Michael van Gerwen. So the long and exciting league season is back on and it is Mighty Mike Van Gerwen who is the reigning champion having taken down Phil Taylor in last season’s final.

Actually for the first time ever, Phil Taylor is only back in the Premier League action as a wildcard. That is because he finished outside of the top four in the Order of Merit and so with Van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Adrian Lewis taking those qualification spots, it was left to a wildcard spot for The Power to have another crack at the tournament. With it having been a busy start of the year with the conclusions of the World Championships and the Masters, the 16 week action of the Premier League Darts 2017 starts up again.

This is a strange tournament as obviously you have to try and turn up once a week and bring your A-Game instead of slowly building up momentum through a knockout tournament. There are ten players starting the season and after everyone has played each other once, then the bottom two in the table at that point drops from the competition and then it is a race between the remaining players to bank a top four place after playing each of the remaining competitors once. Those two four go through to the Play Off night. The Play Offs for the Premier League Darts 2017 season is on May 18th with both the semi finals and the final being played.

Trading as outright favourite in Premier League Darts 2017 betting at Paddy Power is Michael van Gerwen which is no surprise. He is running at a price of 8/13 outright favourite with Paddy Power to sweep the board again. He totally destroyed Phil Taylor 11-3 in last season’s final to collect his second Premier League Darts title. Frankly over such a long competition it is hard to see anyone knocking him off this time around because there is just no-one around who can match his quick scoring and consistency. In last season’s Premier League Van Gerwen suffered just the one loss in his sixteen games across the regular season.

He then took out Adrian Lewis 10-0 in the semi finals before hammering Phil Taylor in the final itself. So the outright winner market may not offer up too much value for your darts betting, but there are plenty of other markets around like Relegation and the To Qualify markets as well. Making their entrance into the Premier League this season at the expense of Robert Thornton and Michael Smith, are Kim Huybrechts and Jelle Klaasen.

Premier League Darts 2017 Outright Winner Betting Odds

Michael van Gerwen 8/15, Gary Anderson 9/2, Peter Wright 10/1, Phil Taylor 12/1, Adrian Lewis 22/1, Raymond van Barneveld 28/1, James Wade 33/1, Dave Chisnall 33/1, Jelle Klaasen 50/1, Kim Huybrechts.

Premier League Darts 2017 Betting Promotion

Paddy Power are running a great promotion for the Premier League Darts 2017 betting action running through the month of February. Back a player to win a match during the month and if that selection goes up 3 sets in the match then you will be paid out immediately as a winner, regardless of whether or not the goes on to claim the match victory. You won’t be paid out twice though if he does win as well though. This offer applies to pre-match singles in the match betting market and applies to all Premier League Darts matches in February (2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd). There is no bet maximum for the Paddy Power darts betting offer either.

Premier League Darts 2017 Elimination Betting Odds

Kim Huybrechts 4/6, Jelle Klaasen Even Money, James Wade 11/4, Dave Chisnall 3/1, Adrian Lewis 7/2, Raymond van Barneveld 7/2, Phil Taylor 15/2, Peter WRight 12/1, Gary Anderson 66/1, Michael van Gerwen 250/1

We are talking about those who have dropped out after the first phase when everyone has played each other once. This will be decided on Judgement Night which is on March 30th and is the last round of the first phase. The bottom two after this drop from the competition. Obviously the two newcomers are favourites here with Huybrechts at 4/6 and Klaasen at even money to be eliminated at this stage. The Premier League can be a hard beast to tame without consistent experience. Dave Chisnall, who was booted at the stage last season is a 3/1 punt to fail at this point, with James Wade, who is receiving little backing anywhere to put together a good season is 11/4. Our suggestions would be to stick with the obvious. Huybrechts is likely to have a hard time keeping pace as he did in the 2015 season when he finished bottom of the pile. But who to go down along with him? Chisnall will probably be alright, and Wade well he made the quarters of the World Championships recently. Well we are going with the obvious of Klaasen, who in 2009 finished bottom of his campaign. There is a great double bet value there.

Premier League Darts 2017 Predictions

So we are going to hint that Klaasen and Huybrechts aren’t going to survive the first phase and it is hard to see them doing so. So which of the remaining eight players are likely to hustle their way into the top four at the end of the second phase of competition? Well, you would obviously expect Van Gerwen and Gary Anderson to have half of those posts and you know what, we would toss Phil Taylor in there as well because he just keeps on trucking and generally holds its own in the tournament. Taylor is great 5/4 value at Paddy Power to get in to the Final Four. After all he has been to all but three of the previous twelve Premier League Darts finals (W6 L2).

Raymond van Barneveld hasn’t done too badly at the competition, but it is hit and miss whether or not he is interested on the night and this format sees far removed from the wheelhouse of Adrian Lewis. So back Peter Wright to make up the numbers as he’s reliably consistent, and for all the opposition of Chisnall, he did finish second in the 2015 table and is as capable of making a run. He is the best dark horse shot to squeeze into the top four.

So moving through if we have a prediction of Taylor, Anderson, Van Gerwen and Wright, as much as you break it down there looks to be only the one winner still. That is Van Gerwen, no-one is at his level at the moment and everyone he goes up against knows that. Gary Anderson is super consistent at the Premier League Darts set up, and he has been the final twice and won both of them, as recently as 2015 in taking out Van Gerwen.

Still, Taylor is the only one, who on his day, can match the scoring power, and the one that you would trust the most to do so. But with The Power finishing it increasingly difficult to sustain the high numbers, this is MVG’s title to lose. You have a 5/4 option on The Field in a Van Gerwen v The Field wager. That pretty much says it all. Mighty Mike for the crown.
