There was a staggering accumulator win for a punter in midweek when a punter in his early-twenties from Kent, returned over £51,000 from a £10 15-team accumulator at bookmaker Ladbrokes. This was a monster coupon which covered teams in league action from across England, Scotland, Germany and Spain.

In the end it all boiled down to a late goal from Ross County to save the day of the punter. As Atletico Madrid stuck in there to beat Real Sociedad 1-0 there must have been a big temptation to cash out during that game, the last leg of the entire bet.

The punter, who is a Blackburn fans said “The Atletico Madrid game was the final leg of the acca and with all of the results already in the bag, I needed them to hold on.

“I watched the last 20 minutes or so and resisted the temptation to cash out. It’s fair to say I’m feeling pretty happy today. But despite the win I’m back on site as my boss hasn’t given me the day off. I might buy him a beer later to celebrate though.

“I’ve done plenty of longshot football accumulators in the past and I always seem to miss by one team so my luck had to change at some point.”

Scottish side Ross County were the team to score the latest goal, securing a dramatic win thanks to a 90th-minute penalty.

And as sponsors of the SPFL, Ladbrokes announced that they were sending the winner a signed Staggies shirt as a memento of the win.
