Federer to win battle of the Swiss

Tennis Betting

Well Roger Federer has been rolling back the years with an imperious run to the semifinals of the Australian Open and is now 2/1 at Paddy Power to claim the title this year. The Swiss superstar has been amazed himself at having reached the final four because this has been after a six month lay off through injury. So he deserves a massive pat on the back for that alone. Federer, a 17 time Grand Slam champion last played at Wimbledon last year competitively before taking on the trials of Melbourne.

Federer, who has won the Australian Open four times before, has seen the top two seeds of Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray crumble early for the competition and now the 35 year old is one step from the final. Federer beat Mischa Zverev in straight sets, the man who had knocked out Andy Murray in the previous round. Federer will now face fellow Swiss Stan Wawrinka in the final four at the Australian Open. So can Federer close out a title this year, which would be his first Grand Slam success since Wimbledon 2012?

Stan Wawrinka came through a heated battle with Jo Wilfried-Tsonga in the quarterfinals to set this one up. Wawrinka is a three-time Grand Slam winner of course and has been many people’s pick for the title outside of backing for Djokovic and Murray ahead of the title. He trails his head to head with Federer 18-3 and has lost the last two against his compatriot. Wawrinka has taken one Grand Slam win against Federer though, carding a French Open quarter finals win against Federer in 2015.

Wawrinka is clearly the one that is going to have a little more energy in the game, so Federer has to find a way to slow things down a bit in this one. That may be possible as Wawrinka likes to stay back and hit from the baseline. So if Federer can move into the net behind his serves then he is going to have an opportunity and frankly, just the way that he is playing at the moment, he is well worth having a flutter on to win the match.
