The Saints have only managed to post the one win in their last eight Premier League matches, so they are just struggling a bit. Their great defensive work over the first half of the season is in a bit of ruin and that may mean punters desert them in this one. The Saints have lost three of their last four matches now, so Mauricio Pochettino’s troops are not too full of confidence and they may be a bit nervy for this FA Cup tie. This will be only the second FA Cup meeting between the two sides, with Southampton winning the previous encounter in the competition all the way back in 1908. The Saints clearly have some good firepower in their ranks with the likes of Rickie Lambert, Jay Rodriguez and Osvaldo all viable options at Even Money in the Anytime Goalscorer market. While things haven’t been clicking in the Premier League, they’ll be hoping to make more of an impact against a Championship side.
Southampton have conceded eight goals in their last four Premier League matches and that may just give a chance to Burnley. Burnley are without a win in their last six away matches now (D4 L2) and that was after having produced six away wins from seven from the start of the season. So like Southampton’s home from, Burnley’s away form has gone off the boil. They have some massive scoring talents which have the capacity to trouble the Saints defence. Danny Ings and Sam Vokes have proven to be a handful for most Championship defences this season and they will enjoy a run out against top flight opposition. Only one other player for Burnley has made it past one goal this season, so it will warrant looking towards Ings and Vokes at a price of 3/1 each in the Anytime Goalscorer market with William Hill.
Prediction
Are the Clarets catching Southampton at the right time? There could be good coverage in a Burnley-Draw Double Result bet for a price of 6/4 with William Hill because the potential is there for the visitors with the Premier League side blowing a bit cold.
