Next England manager betting? Weren’t we just discussing this recently? Well the 2016 calendar year just go even more embarrassment for the Three Lions as after just one game in charge, Sam Allardyce got the boot on Tuesday from the England manager job. Big Sam was recruited from Sunderland in the summer to come in and replace Roy Hodgson after the Three Lions’ miserable Euro 2016 non-spectacle where they were knocked out by Iceland.

But the week however, Allardyce was relieved of his duties after comments about getting around transfer rules to undercover reporters from the Daily Telegraph, along with disparaging remarks about Roy Hodgson and Gary Neville. So that has opened up the market again for Next England manager betting, but who is going to want to pick up this poisoned chalice? Under 21 boss Gareth Southgate will step in as temporary manager of the senior team for the next four England matches against Malta, Slovenia, Scotland and Spain.

He may well play his way into contention, but when the role was open in the summer, Southgate pretty much kept his distance from it. He is 7/4 to get the job on a full time basis and the list of contenders is a bit thin on the ground it has to be said. Steve Bruce is a 3/1 shot, with Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe at 7/1 and Alan Pardew at 12/1. No doubt at some point, Arsene Wenger’s name will come into play as well, with the Frenchman out of contract at Arsenal in the summer, but the FA can’t exactly wait that long.

The Arsenal boss is out at 20/1 at the moment, with Jurgen Klinsmann at 10/1, Laurent Blanc at 25/1 and Sean Dyche at 33/1 which is where Harry redknapp and Marcelo Bielsa is at, along with Louis van Gaal, Gary Neville and Manuel Pellegrini.

In a statement the FA said: “Allardyce’s conduct, as reported today, was inappropriate of the England manager. He accepts he made a significant error of judgement and has apologised. However, due to the serious nature of his actions, The FA and Allardyce have mutually agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

“This is not a decision that was taken lightly but The FA’s priority is to protect the wider interests of the game and maintain the highest standards of conduct in football. The manager of the England men’s senior team is a position which must demonstrate strong leadership and show respect for the integrity of the game at all times.”

Bet365’s Steve Freeth said “Southgate distanced himself from the job when Roy Hodgson left, but there aren’t many candidates leaping off the page and four positive results could strengthen his case.”

This is going to rapidly turn into the job that no-one wants. Once Southgate gets a taste of it, he may be tempted to stick around, but out of the bunch of contenders at the moment, former Hull boss Steve Bruce, who is out of work at the moment, is the most likely candidate to come forward. He was supposedly in the running when Hodgson left his post in the summer after Euro 2016.
