Sunderland v Manchester City Betting Preview – Premier League 5th March 4.00pm

The Black Cats can’t exactly be relishing the challenge ahead of them on the weekend. They desperately need to find some points from somewhere as they start the weekend rooted to the foot of the table. Salvation seems a long way of form them and they have won just one of their last six league games. As for Manchester City they have been improving their output and remain a strong challenger for runners up spot this season behind Chelsea. Pep Guardiola’s men are gunning for their fourth straight Premier League win on the bounce and will be looking to continue in their positive, confident vein of form.

Sunderland v Manchester City Betting Tips

So the Black Cats are still carrying a huge threat of playing Championship football next season. To be clear of the drop zone at the moment they would need to be four points better off than they currently are. That’s a lot when you have picked up just the one win in your last nine Premier League games (D2 L6). However, once they get this one out of the way, there is a decent stretch of fixtures for them to try and pick points up in. Sunderland are on a two match losing streak in the Premier League at the moment and the goals have pretty much dried up for them, not that they were prolific at any point. Sunderland have failed to score in four of their last five games played now in the top flight and that is hurting them. Only Hull and Middlesbrough have scored fewer than they have managed this season. The Black Cats don’t have much to look forward to in this fixture as they are on a five match losing streak against the Citizens in the Premier League.

Sunderland have suffered back to back defeats at home against Manchester City as well, but you can find a positive for them in that manager David Moyes has only lost two of the 12 home Premier League games he has managed against Manchester City (W7 D3 L2). But Sunderland have lost 17 of their league matches this season and that matches the tally of defeats that they collected over the entire course of last season. Sunderland have not been higher than 15th at any stage this season while in contrast, Man City are just one of two sides (Everton) who have not been outside of the top half. Jermain Defoe is at 2/1 in the Paddy Power anytime goalscorer market and he has eight Premier League goals against Man City. Defoe has also scored five of Sunderland’s last seven league goals. Over 2.5 goals at Paddy Power is a price of 4/9 as 69% of Sunderland’s home games this season have done and Manchester City have averaged two goals per game on the road this season. The Black Cats have won just one league game in 2017.

The Citizens are on a three match winning streak in the Premier League and they have have only conceded one goal too in that sequence. So an improved defensive output they have shown and a bold Man City to win to nil in this one is 6/5 at Paddy Power. Actually each of their last three away wins in the top flight have been with a clean sheet and they have back to back ones on the road. It could well be worth a nibble. Sergio Aguero has four goals in his last four Premier League appearances against Sunderland and he has scored in each of his last three appearances at the Stadium of Light as well (four goals). Aguero is trading at 8/15 in the anytime goalscorer market which he is at 5/2 in the First Goalscorer market. Man City have returned a W9 L4 record from their 13 away games in the top flight this season. Pep Guardiola has lost five league games with City this season never in his managerial career has he ever lost six in a single season. They should be toppling the bottom side in the table.

Sunderland v Manchester City Predictions

The Black Cats have misfired against sides who aren’t as good as Manchester City are and they are likely to come out of this one empty handed. Manchester City’s away form has seen them winning all but four of their away games and with an average of two goals per game out on the road, there’s nothing wrong with looking at a Manchester City 2-0 correct score being put on the board in this one.
