The Barclays 2016 Golf Betting Prediction & Odds

Matsuyama a great fit for Bethspage?

It is the start of the FedExCup play offs this week with the introduction of the Barclays for it’s annual spot. This is for the top 125 points leaders from across the season and the field will be cut for the Deutsche Bank Championship to 100. There is a cut after 36 holes in both The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank where the top seventy move on to the weekend in each event. The tournament goes off at the Bethpage Black Course over in New York and the reigning champion is Jason Day who took a massive 6 stroke victory last season in this one. In doing so he equalled Dustin Johnson’s 2011 record of -19 under par for the event.

The Barclays Golf Betting Odds

Jason Day 7/1, Dustin Johnson 9/1, Rory McIlroy 11/1, Henrik Stenson 12/1, Jordan Spieth 14/1, Justin Rose 22/1, Hideki Matsuyama 28/1, Brooks Koepka 28/1, Phil MIckelson 30/1, Adam Scott 33/1, 35/1 bar

This getting down to the business end of the season now here the big money is. Players have to work their way through the play offs to have a shot at the Tour Championship which is just for the Top 30 points leaders after the other three FedEx Cup events. So there are some eyes on the big prize here and Day is running as 7/1 outright favourite for the tournament. He hasn’t been out in action since his runner up finish at the PGA and he should be a good fit. Although he won both The Barclays and the BMW last season, they were both on different courses last term.

He was the man of the hour in the FedEx Cup play offs last season. Will he come out firing? There’s little to knock about his game really, he has what it takes off the tee and there’s not many who can match up to the quality of his putting. The Bethpage course that this one is going off on though is the second-longest par 71 of the season and we can probably expect a tight tussle than the cruise that Day was on last season when the Barclays was held at the Plainfield Country Club.

The last time that The Barclays was at Bethpage was in 2012 and Nick Watney fired his way to a three stroke victory. Since the inception of the FedEx Cup play offs, seven of the eight editions have been settled by 3 strokes or fewer, the expectation being last season when no-one could touch Jason Day. So because of the distance you can look at someone who can crack the ball a fair way and that bring Dustin Johnson into play.

Of course he has pretty much been the man on form all summer and he is pretty much a solid lock for FedEx Cup play off tournaments. Johnson has two victories in the Play Offs and ten other top ten finishes as well. He has just been firing along all season and should be well in the mix at 9/1. But the prices on both him and Day are pretty short for punters to get their teeth into so you can go and look at the double-figure prices for a bit of extra value. Rory McIlroy is there at 11/1 but is better overlooked for Henrik Stenson.

The Swede landed himself a Major this year and let’s not forget that he was in contention at the Olympics as well, finishing as runner up to Justin Rose in the end. But his form is there and he is a former FedEx Cup winner let’s not forget, taking the title in 2013. It would be surprising if his steady hand wasn’t playing a major part in The Barclays title on Sunday. Speaking of Justin Rose he really doesn’t have the fit for this one and goes at a pretty low seeding. The Olympics was his big moment of the year and will probably stay that way.

Rickie Fowler is screaming some big each way value in The Barclays 2016 betting. Granted he was stronger over the first half of the season than the latter, but could do the business here. He won the Deutsche Bank last season and could make a positive splash at The Barclays. He has enough of a solid driving game and is running at 16th in greens in regulation this season and Bethpage will reward those who go for it both off the tee and on approach. As long as he doesn’t get himself off line too much, he could be in contention.

The other player that has seen plenty of market action is Hideki Matsuyama. He has the form behind him to go all the way here after landing a T4 at Baltusrol and a T3 at Sedgefield recently. He is putting it all together at the moment and he has carded a total of 10 under from his last two appearances at The Barclays. Great fit and while his putting isn’t always up there, he has the tee to green game to really put himself in the mix and at a quote of 28/1 he is bags of value for The Barclays golf betting this week.
