Tottenham v CSKA Moscow Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 7th December

This looks like a showdown with a prize that neither of them would want. Tottenham are sitting in third going into match day six and can’t qualify for the knockout stage of the competition. Now if they draw or win this game they will be confirmed for Thursday night Europa League action, which is debatable whether or not that they would want to go through that. CSKA are in the same boat, but they have to win to beat Spurs to third spot in the group, so it’ll be interesting to see which one of these actually cares about going into the second tier competition. It could make for a dull night at Wembley on Wednesday.

Tottenham v CSKA Moscow Betting Tips

Do Spurs even care enough to send out a strong side for this one? It is debatable whether or not Europa League action on a Thursday night would be something good for them. The Lilywhites are favourites to win this, their final group stage match of the season in the Champions League. Spurs have won four of their six previous match ups against Russian opponents in all competitions, losing just one. So nothing wrong with their form there and in their three previous home fixtures against sides from Russia, Spurs have gone W2 D1. At Wembley this season in the competition, their challenge has fallen apart with losses against both Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen. Spurs have just been flat really for the want of a better word and you aren’t going to get anywhere dropping so many point at home in the Champions league. Spurs restored some confidence through by slamming five goals past Swansea in the Premier League on the weekend.

Harry Kane is running at a price of 8/11 in the anytime goalscorer market for the fixture on Wednesday night, however, here is an unexpected state, that Tottenham have failed to score more than one goal in each of their last nine Champions League now and have just a 5% shot conversion rate in this season’s campaign, scoring just the three goals from 58 shots. It’s not been anywhere near ruthless enough from them and at Bet365 a Tottenham 1-0 correct score is a price of 6/1 (the same quote as 2-0 win for them). Alternatively you can throw something at 6/4 on Tottenham to win to nil for the extra coverage. Spurs v CSKA Moscow to go under 2.5 goals will return a price of 21/20 as well, so you are looking at some good priced options. Spurs are playing European games at Wembley because of access issues due to the work on the new stadium next to White Hart Lane, have actually lost each of their last six games there now.

CSKA Moscow have claimed just the one point away from home in the group so far this season. They battled to a 2-2 draw at Leverkusen before going down heavily at Monaco. In last season’s Champions League campaign, the Russians finished bottom of their group with just the one win under their belt. They don’t even have one victory this season but they have stubbornly drawn three of their five games so far. CSKA Moscow are not a great away side as they have lost nine of their last eleven Champions League away games and they don’t have form in England either. The Army Men have been to England seven times before, winning just one of those games (W1 D3 L3). Overall home and away their record against English sides is W3 D5 L8 and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine against English opposition. They actually have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 27 Champions League matches.

Tottenham v CSKA Moscow Predictions

Really nothing Spurs should be worried about in this one. This is all going to depend on whether or not the Lilywhites are actually going to be interested in winning this game. Maybe they would be better off losing it. But the challenge of CSKA Moscow is likely going to be so poor that Spurs can win this without trying or breaking much of a sweat. Look for a home win and back the Lilywhites to grab the victory to nil as well. Ironically it could be a win that they don’t actually want.
