Tottenham V Maribor Europa League
You really wouldn’t have expected to have sees Spurs sitting without a win at this stage of the Europa league. There’s no panic button which needs hitting just yet after two draws from their opening two matches. An away result here would give them a huge boost in the race to qualify for the next stage and while they have been taking it seriously, they have been lacking a bit. Just a point against Panathinaikos on Match Day Two was a huge missed opportunity. Coupled with their defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, can they muster up a response?

Tottenham v Maribor Europa League Betting Odds at online bookmaker Bet365:
Spurs 7/10, Draw 13/5, Maribor 4/1

Verdict:
You would imagine that any Spurs side which is near strength should be able to get a result out of this, but that is what we though on Match Day Two when they went to Greece. Nevertheless, they should still be able to get something out of this fixture, which doesn’t seem too difficult. Maribor have three points from their two matches so far and secured an impressive home win on Match Day One against Panathinaikos. The Slovenian side did lose against Birmingham in the Europa League home and away last season and Spurs should fancy their chances here. The Slovenians have actually been pretty decent at home this season in Europe, but you have to look at the class that Spurs can put out and even though they haven’t been playing full of conviction, the English side should be worth backing to get a result. A Spurs -1 Asian Handicap for a price of 5/4 with online bookmaker Bet365 looks good.

Stat Attack:
This is the first meeting between the two sides
Spurs have lost just one of their last five away games in Europe
Maribor have won three of their four European home games this season by 3 goal margins
Spurs have kept three clean sheets in the last five away from home in Europe

Tottenham v Maribor Betting Preview:
Spurs do have a little catching up to do in the group and they will want it to start here on their trip to Slovenia. Spurs have done alright on the road in recent times, but they should have done much better on Match Day Two in Greece. Spurs have only played a Slovenian side once before, a game which they won back in 1995 against Rudar Velenje. Spurs were in great domestic form until they lost 4-2 against Chelsea at White Hart Lane last weekend in the Premier League. Andre Villas-Boas sounds interested in Europe and could field a reasonably strong side and get a result out of this one. They’ll know the importance of not losing, as defeat would put them four points adrift of the Slovenian side.

Maribor won their lost home match in Europe, a 3-0 win over Panathinaikos. That was the third time in four home matches that they had won by a three goal margin or greater. So they will be banking on their home form to gun down the English Premier League side Maribor lost against Birmingham in last year’s group stage, that being their first encounter with an English side. They’ll be wary of the fact that Spurs have travelled fairly well in Europe lately and will threaten them. But the Slovenians have been tough to beat on their home soil and having conceded just one goal in their two matches this season in the Europa League, will at least be eyeing up a positive point.
