The Road To Dubai leader Rory McIlroy steps out into action at the Turkish Airlines this week and is a short priced favourite at Betfair, teeing off the tournament at a price of 4/1. Last year McIlroy was dominant on his way to claiming the second Road To Dubai title of his career but heading into this year’s Finals series he only has a narrow lead in the contest so will have to produce over the next four tournaments if he wants to win it for a third time.

This is the start of the Finals, a replica of the FedExCup play-offs on the PGA Tour. Every player who has qualified for the Finals series has a shot at winning the prize if performances can be nailed over the next few weeks. Overall it has been a disjointed season for McIlroy, who was in some brilliant form before he picked up an ankle injury in July and then he has been working his way back from that, having shown some glimpses of his very best.

Second-placed on the Road to Dubai is Danny Willett who will be hoping to have his eye in out in Turkey this week at The Montgomerie Maxx Royal. Wins at the Nedbank Golf Challenge and the Omega European Masters has put Willett in contention and he goes with McIlroy and Shane Lowry in the opening rounds so he will be able to keep track of McIlroy.

Lowry should be well in the picture as well with a great season under his belt, the highlight being his WGC Bridgestone Invitational victory and a second place at the British Masters. Young Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick is right up there in the head of the market and no-one has earned more top three finishes on the European Tour this year than he has (six in total). Another good performance and he could pull clear of his rivals for the Rookie of the Year award.
