Serbia to hold out against the Welsh

Wales v Serbia Betting Preview – World Cup 2018 Qualifiers 12th November

Big game for the Welsh because they can’t afford to lose this home game on Saturday in their World Cup 2018 Qualification group. The Welsh are two points behind leaders Serbia at the moment and so a five point deficit would see their chances of automatically taking a place at Russia 2018 diminish greatly. But this is a tough game for them because the Serbians are running on a seven match unbeaten streak and they have started pretty solidly and the goals have been flowing from them. Will Wales be able to bag what would be a massively important three points with home advantage?

Wales v Serbia Betting Tips

Wales, and their boss Chris Coleman will remember Serbia not too fondly. Four years ago they were paired together with the Serbians in World Cup 2014 qualification and the Welsh were smashed. Wales suffered a big 6-1 defeat on the road against them, and were brushed aside 3-0 back at home against them. That 6-1 loss, in what was Coleman’s fourth game in charge of the nation, was the worst start made by any Wales manager in history. But they have come a long way since that shambolic defending after making their run to Euro 2016 semi finals. Now they are back at it again to try and reach the World Cup 2018. Wales would move one point clear of Serbia if they can land the win at home, the Welsh having gone W1 D2 over their first three games. Their 4-0 opening win over Moldova was followed by draws against Austria and Georgia.

So already this will be the third home game so far for Wales in this campaign. Home advantage has to be fully taken here because the group looks as if it will be a tight affair. This will be then just the third meeting between the two countries and this one to go over 2.5 goals like the other two have done is a decent shot of 8/13 with online betting site Sky Bet. Both teams to score in the match will return a price of 19/20 as well with the bookmaker and considering that between theme they have scored fifteen goals in their qualifiers so far, it looks value. Gareth Bale is trading at price of 21/20 in the anytime goalscorer market for this one. Wales always need a big game from him.

So Serbia have been going well pushing forward with over two goals per game so far. They are top of the qualification group with seven points and punters will probably see a bit of value in them. They have collected seven points from their three games so far, opening with a 2-2 draw with Ireland, then putting back to back wins together over Moldova and Serbia, netting three goals in each of those victories as well. They have a couple of familiar faces with Southampton’s Dusan Tadic and Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic both having netted two qualification goals for them. Mitrovic is a 12/5 punt in the anytime goalscorer market at Sky Bet with Tadic at 7/2 and that’s not to mention other threats through Aleksandar Pecic and Andrija Pavlovic around the 11/4 mark.

So the Serbians are in good form at the moment with no loss in any of their last seven competitions matches. They have also netted at least two goals in five of their last seven (including friendlies) so they have what it takes to trouble the Welsh. The Welsh though will see that the Serbian defence hasn’t been water right and will be hoping that continues. Serbia would probably be unhappy with point in this one away from home and that will add to their resilience on Saturday. If a win comes their way it is likely to be with a clean sheet, so Serbia to go out and win to nil in this one will return you a price of 15/4, a huge shot. There is a tempting shot on the draw to be in place at half time and a Draw/Wales half time/full time option is a 9/2 shot with a Draw/Serbia half time/full time option at 11/2.

Wales v Serbia Predictions

This is likely to be a close call. Wales have failed to win any of their last two and that sequence may continue as they take on Serbia who have gone unbeaten in their last seven. So not an easy game for either of them and the visitors do carry an attacking threat to trouble the Welsh. This may all balance out at the end of the evening with a point for each. Look for the draw in the match outright.
