Cricket Betting

It is the turn of England’s women’s team to try and bring home a cricket title this summer. The Women’s Cricket World Cup starts on June 24th and runs through July 23rd and the host nation are one of the front runners for the title. The tournament is being hosted in England/Wales and it will feature the top eight ranked teams in women’s cricket.

The ICC Women’s Championship was one of the qualifiers for the tournament and that was England’s route to the World Cup along with Australia, New Zealand and the West Indies. Those four are joined at the tournament by India, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Pakistan who all came through a 2017 World Cup qualifier.

The Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017 will be played at Lord’s, Derby, Bristol, Leicester and Taunton and the first round is a group stage with all eight teams lumped together in a round robin format. Across the 28 days of the tournament, there will be 31 games in total and the top four from the group stage will move through to the semi final knockouts and the winners of that will meet up at Lord’s on July 23rd.

Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017 Preview

So no sooner has the buzz of the ICC Champions Trophy died down, cricket action gets ramped up again with the Women’s Cricket World Cup and England are hosting again. This is the top prize in the game and England are in with a good chance on home soil here. They are one of the leading sides in the Women’s game and Heather Knight will lead from the front after having taken up the reins from Charlotte Edwards. This will be Knight’s first time in charge of the national side at a major tournament.

Sarah Taylor is back in the squad and the bowling experience of Katherine Brunt (this will be her fourth World Cup) and Anya Shrubsole are going to be key players for the English. They also have 2009 World Cup winners Jenny Gunn and Laura Marsh in the squad as well. They should be a banker for the semi finals because they are just about the complete side and can handle the pressure. England’s main challengers in the tournament are Australia who look a bit of a formidable outfit. They have a great blend of youthful exuberance and experience.

Aussie Skipper Meg Lanning could be one of the stars of the tournament with the bat and they are strong right down the batting order. If you stack all of the bowling attacks of the nations up, then Australia come out on top. Bowlers Megan Schutt and Ellyse Perry are likely going to do a lot of damage in the tournament and this will be a big showing from Schutt who is back from injury and she was the leading wicket taker at the last World Cup. No-one is going to want to face up to the Aussies at any point and England’s big showdown with them happens at the Bristol County Ground on July 9th.

South Africa, who are led by top One Day International bowler Marizanne Kapp and she will be well backed up by Shabnim Ismail who has devastating bowling pace. They don’t get much faster in the world than here. The Proteas also get Captain Dane van Niekerk back for this and may not be a bad each way bet at Coral to win the Women’s World Cup 2017. New Zealand look a pretty solid side and the White Ferns have key player Sophie Devine back and she along with Suzie Bates provides a wealth of experience at the top of the batting order. Whether or not their bowling attack can live up to it, is a different matter.

India are a side on the up in the women’s game and came through the World Cup qualifiers successfully and the experience of Mithali Raj, who is the second leading run scorer in the history of Women’s cricket, is going to have a lot on her shoulders as she will support an exciting young batting line up. They are going to form and loading up on spin bowling for their attack, led by Jhulan Goswami, the top wicket taker in Women’s ODI cricket.

West Indies are a dark horse in this one and while they don’t really have the bowling attack, their batting line up can destroy opponents on it’s day. Pakistan are ranked seventh in the Women’s ODI rankings and haven’t gone particularly well at World Cups before. Other than captain Sana Mir, they are probably going to fall short of emulating the men’s success at the ICC Champions Trophy recently. Then you have Sri Lanka who came through the World Cup Qualifiers on home soil. Their batting looks a bit lightweight though.

Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017 Prediction

Prediction: Australia are the ones to beat in this one and they, along with England should be locks for the semi finals. South Africa make our best dark horse option to get through to the final four and joining them could well be India who are really starting to come together as a unit. As for an outright winner, it’s hard to look past the powerful Aussies.
