WTA Auckland betting is the only stop on the Women’s Tour for the season, and with the bigger attraction of the Brisbane International, then the field here is a little reduced. But there are some great betting opportunities worth looking at all the same, because some of 2011’s best breakthrough stars are in action, as well as Britain’s number one Elena Baltacha. Baltacha got off to a great start to the new year, beating Sacha Jones from New Zealand in three sets. Always like looking at Baltacha in this level of tournaments on the WTA, because now and again, she really does punch hard and cause an upset. She will need one of those performances as she has to go up against one of the favourites in WTA Auckland betting, Flavia Pennetta in the second round. Italian Pennetta goes as fourth seed and will make superb value in getting behind here in your tennis betting. She has the experience and class to make a big impact here, and while she has been better known throughout her career as a doubles player, she brings a bit of style and class to the game. She is a very quiet and understated player, but fancy her to make a strong start to the season. She is in the top half, along which is much tougher than the bottom half here.

Germany’s Sabine Lisicki is top seed for the event, and was one of the real bright sparks from the 2011 season. She plays with such passion, has a fantastic serve variety and technique, and when she puts everything together, she really is one of the most exciting top ten players around. Also from Germany, Julia Goerges will also look to take a step forward after something of a breakthrough year for her last year. She scored victories over some big name scalps last season, but was plagued with inconsistency, perhaps the biggest thing holding her back. Still, it is a new season, full of promise and her inclusion into the top half of the draw makes it fascinating. We really enjoy the youthful exuberance of the likes of Goerges, and the slightly more class in the all round game that Lisicki brings to the table. Would look for Pennetta though to kick things off here, with Lisicki, really challenging hard as well.

Down in the bottom half of the draw, things look a bit more cut and dry. Would get behind Shaui Peng to have a superb run at the final here. Like Sabine, had a pretty good season last year, and definitely has something to build upon. A very exciting, young player, one to watch out for this year, there could be massive things to come from here. The experience of Svetlana Kuznetsova is also in the bottom half, and she rediscovered a bit of her top form last year. But for now, would have a very good look at Peng.
