WTA Barcelona Tennis Betting Info

It has some been a great few weeks of tennis with all the Premier level events happening, but we switch over to International level this week, as we get to look at the players again clay. This always make for good entertainment because of the surface, and there is a decent crop of players heading up the tennis betting for this one out in Spain. This is the first European red clay event of the year, and players start getting their footing in ahead of he French Open at Roland Garros. So an important pre-cursor for the next Tennis Grand Slam betting.

WTA Barcelona Tennis Betting Defending Champion

We had a surprise winner here last year, as diminutive Italian Roberta Vinci popped up to the take the title for the second time. She actually has an outstanding 14-1 match record in Barcelona, so is definitely in tune with the event. That is two wins out of three appearances from her, and she has been in the final on all three of her appearances. She goes as fourth seed this year. While she hasn’t exactly set the season alight this year, a quarter final run to Paris one of the highlights, in her last clay court outing in Acapulco in February, she did reach the semi finals. So a good, solid clay court player and worth a shot on the world number 19 for 12/1 at Bet365, because it is a competitive field which she could stand up against.

WTA Barcelona Tennis Betting Favourite

Another Italian, Francesca Schiavone takes the honours as going as favourite in the betting. She is a proven clay court player, and while plagued by huge inconsistencies, she is a real scrapper, a quality needed on the clay She has also won the title here before so that puts her in good standing as well. She enters as a wild card, but goes as number one seed and you would expect to at least see her in the quarter finals. Has been pretty average this year though, but she will prime herself for another run at the French Open. Her only appearance on clay this year was in the Fed Ex cup where she struggled against the Ukraine. Should be strong, but nothing convincing about her game at the moment, but goes off at 4/1 with Bet365.

Other Contenders

We are staying in Italy for our Barcelona tennis betting preview here, as Flavia Pennetta represents a very strong contender. She is in the same half of the draw as Schiavone, but is a much stronger player at the moment. Pennetta went to the final of Acapulco on clay this year and would expect a strong run from her again. Falls a little short when competing in the high level tournaments against the really strong fields, but she is a classy performer and knows how to get the job done. She reached the semi finals here in 2007, but has been back since a disappointing 2009 appearance Great all round game, expect her to be strong.

Germany’s Julia Goerges has quietly been having a steady season. She isn’t of the high quality consistency needed to really solidify herself as a top ten player, but she isn’t that far away. She reached the final of Dubai with an impressive run, which saw her beat Caroline Wozniacki again. She looked in good shape at Indian Wells before she ran into world number one Victoria Azarenka and got brushed aside. Was very disappointing in Miami where she lost in the second round to Kim Clijsters, and expect a lot better from her than that. She is a big streak player, and when she is hot, she really rides her momentum to go deep into tournaments. It doesn’t happen enough, but improving in quality all the time, and as number two seed in Spain this week, it is not so tough a draw that she can’t make a strong title case. Would also weigh up Italian Sara Errani as well, because she has a clay court title under her belt already this season, beating Flavia Pennetta in the final of Acapulco. She has had some great runs this season so far, and has every chance here in the same quarter as Julia Goerges.

Best Outside Bet

We are going to plump for Dominika Cibulkova at 16/1 with Bet365. The young Slovakian seems to just be warming up a little bit into the season We haven’t seen her on clay yet, but she is one of those players who can just produce a fantastic tournament out of the blue. We have to mention another name here, Sorana Cirstea, who we have been very impressed with this year. One of the better youngsters on the tour with a huge amount of potential. Equally as good of an outside shot here.
