WTA Kuala Lumpur Tennis Betting Favourite
Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki is favourite this week in tennis betting, but not overwhelmingly so. that is understandable as it is a long time since we have seen her in the world beating form that she was in when she ranked number one in the women’s game. Had a really slow start to the new year with early exists in Brisbane and then Sydney. Made the round of sixteen at the Australian Open in showing better form and then went to the quarter finals of Doha. She did score a couple of good wins there, beating Sorana Cirstea and young German starlet Mona Barthel. Couldn’t match up to the class of Agnieszka Radwanska in the quarter finals though, but at least Wozniacki is back in the top ten in the world and fighting. Highest ranked player in this week’s field by a long shot and is 6/5 favourite.
Other Contenders
Su Wei Hsieh, the Chinese Taipei player, is the defending champion here this week. She is ranked 23rd in the world and she has always been up and down since joining the Tour back in 2001. It was a great run in last season’s event where she actually beat the then world number six Agnieszka Radwanska along the way in a shock result. She took the title when up against Petra Martic, who retired before the end of the match. Hsieh has not been in any great kind of form this year, hasn’t been past the second round of anywhere this season yet. Trading well as defending champion, but not really a lot of value.
Would look for far better value in Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The Russian took some time away from the game because of illness and is feeling her way back in. She went to the final of Brisbane at the start of the season and got blown away by Serena Williams there and hasn’t picked up a win since in her other two outings. Still, she is highly experienced and ranked 29th in the world. Would take the heavy hitting Russian to make a decent fist of things here. it’s not a tough tournament for her to navigate and would hope to see her around the business end of the week. She should meet Hsieh in the semi’s if they both get that far.
Best Outside Bet
Think there could be a decent bit of value in looking at Japan’s Ayumi Morita. She has a decent draw and could have a solid run to the semi finals because of the draw, where she would likely meet Caroline Wozniacki. Because of the vulnerabilities of Wozniacki this season, hovering around a price of 20/1 at online bookmaker Bet365, she could put in a decent performance. This is her first foray into a WTA event this year (plays in the ITF) but if her mightily convincing wins over Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in the Fed Cup is anything to by, could make a great outside bet.
