Can Vika be stopped on Madrid clay?

Tennis Betting

The 2016 WTA season has been all about Victoria Azarenka who is undergoing a renaissance. She is back at the top of her game. There is no Serena Williams in Madrid because of illness, which will lend more support towards Azarenka who is looking to make it three titles in a row for this season, after claiming victory at Indian Wells and then in Miami. She dropped just the one set over those two tournaments and beat Serena Williams in the final of Indian Wells and the Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber in Miami.

So Azarenka in the one to stop, however, she hasn’t gone very far on her last two visits to Madrid, losing against Williams in the round of sixteen last season, a round further than she managed in the previous year. She did get to the final in 2011 and in 2012 but lost out on both occasions there. The 2011 final was lost against Petra Kvitova and the Czech is running as second favourite in WTA Madrid Tennis betting this week.

Kvitova couldn’t handle Kerber in the semi finals of Stuttgart recently and is still looking for her first final of the term. She is a two-time winner of Madrid though, which makes her a threat for the 2016 edition but there could be better value elsewhere. Simona Halep is kicking around at a price of 5/1 and you’ll get the guts and fight from her whoever she is taking on and at what stage. Halep, like Kvitova hasn’t really caught first this season yet either with no final appearances.

So clay expert Carla Suarez Navarro should have big appeal at a price of 8/1 as an each way bet. The Spaniard, who won in Doha this season and made the quarters of the Australian Open, was, like Kvitova, a victim of Angelique Kerber also in Stuttgart on her first clay event of the season. She went to the quarterfinals of Madrid last season where she was stopped by Serena Williams, but should be good value to go deep this term.

Really, take Azarenka out of the Madrid field and this is wide, wide open with some top seeds having fallen early, including number one seed Agnieszka Radwanska who was ousted in the first round by Dominka Cibulkova. Angelique Kerber went out in the first round as well to Barbora Strycova. Azarenka and Kvitova are heading for a massive quarter final clash which could open things up even more in WTA Madrid tennis betting. Look for decent runs from Suarez Navarro, Cibulkova and Halep.
