Higuain’s first goal for Real Madrid was against Atletico de Madrid. But real excitement was the last minute goal he scored against RCD Espanyol when the match was tied 3-3. Higuain won the ball in a sliding tackle and slotted the ball into the net. It was a crucial victory for his club as it propelled Real Madrid to the first place overtaking arch rivals FC Barcelona and eventually to the League title.
Higuain has a knack of coming to the rescue of his team at precarious junctures. In the 2007-08 season, Real Madrid was down 0-1 against CA Osasuna. Higuain came in as a substitute in the 67th minute and he assisted the equalizer in the 88th minute. Then he struck two minutes later to clinch the La Liga title. He repeated this feat in the next game too coming late into the game and scoring with his first touch within a minute.
In the next season, 2008-09, Higuai scored in the 89th minute giving Real Madrid a victory over Valentina FC and its eighth Spercopa de Espana. He finished the season as his club’s top scorer with 24 goals.
Higuain is in devastating form in the current year too scoring 10 goals as of 10 January 2010.
His first official game for Argentina was in the 2010 World Cup qualifying match against Peru and he scored in the debut game taking the team to a 2-1 victory. Coach Maradona is bound to have many strategies with Higuain as the pivot, in the coming World Cup. |
