Suarez has been capped 25 times for the Uruguayan national team and has scored 11 international goals. Starting as a youngster with great promise, he very soon became a much sought after professional, especially by the European clubs.
Suarez moved on to Ajax after a short stint with the Dutch club FC Groningen. He did well to end his first season (2007-08) with Ajax with 20 goals in 40 appearances.
Despite earning as many as 7 yellow cards, the 2008-09 proved to be an excellent one for Suarez as he ended the season with 22 goals from 31 games in the league, finishing second in the top-scorers table.
Suarez kicked off the current season in great style, scoring a hat-trick in only the second match of the league, against RKC Waalvijk. His goal scoring spree continued and he banged in a brace against arch rivals PSV Eindhoven.
In the play-off round first-leg of the UEFA Europa League, Suárez netted four goals in a 5–0 win over Slovan Bratislava in August 2009 and a month later, he scored four goals in a 4–0 win against VVV. On December 23rd 2009, he banged in 6 goals in a single match against the amateur team of WHC in the Dutch cup helping Ajax to win by a record margin of 14-1.
Presntly, Suarez is the captain of Ajax.
Suárez made his debut for the Uruguay on February 8, 2007 in a 3–1 win against Colombia. He has become a permanent member of the national team and scored 5 goals in the World Cup qualifiers. |
