Mesut Ozil  WORLD CUP STAR

A German player of Turkish origins, Ozil joined the youth department of Schalke 04 when he was 17. On 31 January 2008, he moved to Werder Bremen for a reported fee of 4.3 million Euros and is scheduled to be there till mid 2011.

He scored his first Bundesliga goal against Karlsruhe in April 2008. Özil played 12 Bundesliga games for Werder, and set up one goal as Bremen finished second in the league.

In 2008-09, Özil paired with Brazilian playmaker Diego to give Werder a formidable  midfield. But Bremen struggled in the Bundesliga and finished the season in 10th place despite three goals and 15 assists from Özil. However Özil helped Werder Bremen to reach the final of the UEFA Cup, where Bremen lost 2-1 in extra time against Shaktar Donetsk. Özil had seven assists to his credit during Bremen's run from the Champions League through to the UEFA Cup final. In the final of the German Cup, Özil scored his second goal of the competition in a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

In September 2006, Özil was included in the Germany U-17 team. He has been a member of the German U-21 team since 2007. Özil was the driving force in the 4–0 win over England during the U-21 European Championship final in June 2009
Özil’s debut for the Germany national football team was in a friendly match against Norway on 11 February 2009. His first goal for Germany came in another friendly, against South Africa on 5 September in Leverkusen. It was his third appearance for the country.
Özil’s stock is rising at a rapid rate, and this current campaign has seen the little midfield superstar take his game to a new level. In 13 matches this season, Özil has found the net on six occasions as coach Thomas Schaaf plays him in a more advance midfield role on the left where he can cause maximum damage, getting into positions behind defenders. Özil is the complete player; he has pace, an exceptional awareness of where his teammates are on the pitch, and the predatory instincts of a seasoned centre-forward.
