Palacios, along with his four brothers started his career with Club Deportivo Victoria, from which all five players were later transferred to Olimpia.
Palacios made 102 appearances and scored 32 goals for Olimpia. He went along to win five league titles with Olimpia. He is especially remembered for scoring a goal from the half-way line against Marathón in the final minutes of a game in 2006 to become champions of Honduras.
His exploits aroused tremendous interest in Europe and made his debut for Birmingham in September 2007. Palacios moved on to Wigan Athletics in January 2008 and rejoined coach Bruce who had always been his mentor. But he had become a hot property and Bruce could not keep Palacios for long at Wigan and Tottenham Hotspur picked him up in January 2009.
He made his Tottenham debut in a 3–2 defeat to Bolton Wanderers on 31 January, and assisted with the second goal. His marvellous performance in his second match, against local rivals Arsenal, earned him the man of the match award. Since then he has had some excellent performances in the Spurs midfield.
Palacios has played 63 matches with Honduras where he has converted 4 goals since 2003. It is not as much as the number of goals he has scored but his sheer presence in the team and his never say die attitude that makes him the most valued player for Honduras. The football mad Honduras owes a lot to Palacios for qualifying for only the second time for the World Cup. |
