Champions League Betting & Europa League Betting

UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League betting are areas outside of your normal domestic football betting, which can be used to increase your profits. The thing about European football, is that you are always aware of the dominant leagues where the best teams come from. Teams from England, Italy, Germany and Spain are naturally those who are going to be putting up sterner challenges in these tournaments, because that is where the money is, and that is where the best players in the world gravitate to, in order to play their trade at the top levels.

The UEFA Champions League in its group stage offers a lot of opportunities for football betting. There are always two seeds in the group, and these are the ones who generally qualify for the next stage of the competition. Therefore, you can always build your bets on the Group Winners before the tournament actually kicks offs, because the tournament is set up to see the seeded teams go through.

Because those top two teams are paired up with another duo of teams which are there almost to make up the numbers, it is easy to back the strong teams in Europe, especially when they are at home, and although the outright prices may not be strongly in your favour, it is always a good chance to build accumulators, or dip into sub markets for matches such as Anytime Goal Scorer, Over/Under or Both Teams To Score markets.

Home advantage is huge in European football. This isn’t like Arsenal crossing London to go and play at Chelsea for an away match, travel across the continent can be a tiring affair, especially coming off a weekend domestic match. Home advantage counts for a lot, and this is generally the occasion where the underdog will shine. There are two ways to look at this, the underdog in a group match will have a better chance of winning at home, while the away team, the favourites, will be at better odds to win themselves than if they were at home.

Again, the stronger teams are worth looking at for Goal Scorer markets in favourite v underdog matches, because those world class strikers will generally get more and more opportunities than when facing the other seeded team. Basically the group outright winner will come down to a decision between two teams.

Following on from the Group Stage, the knockout stage gets a little bit more unpredictable, but by simply studying that all important history, along with stats including a teams’ current domestic form (because of the long breaks between Champions League matches), you can start to paint yourself a clear picture.

Picking an outright winner for your UEFA Betting markets (UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League), is best done from the start. Especially in the Champions League. Again, you expect the strong favourites to be making an appearance in the quarter finals, such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich, so you can narrow down the field a bit from the off.

There is always better value in picking a tournament winner before the event actually starts, because the further the tournament progress, naturally the odds on the favourites will shorten because there is less opposition.

The other side of that, is that when you get to the quarter final stage, you are looking at a winner from eight teams instead of the 32, so it may be easier to call a potential winner, but odds will be shorter. This would be the time to perhaps pick a secondary bet to your original ante-post winner, perhaps one of the shorter priced outsiders who could steal the limelight. The Champions League is an arduous competition and always take a look at stats and history to back up your betting strategy.

Remember that you can always look at alternative markets such as Stage of Elimination if you are happy picking out losers rather than winners.

As for the UEFA Europa League, which seems to run on forever, there are so many unknown, unpredictable teams in there, that it may look overwhelming at first. It’s not. Again, the cream will generally rise to the top here as well, and you will lean towards English, Italian and Spanish teams to take the glory. They just have the top flight experience and edge to get through.

It is harder to pick an ante post bet out of this one, because eight teams from the Champions League join the tournament after the group stage, so you don’t know exactly who is going to be in there. Teams who aren’t quite good enough to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League stands a good chance in the Europa league, because they will have been playing better, more competitive European teams than if they had started in the Europa League.
