Betting weekend preview (Premier League)

Bet on this Weekend's Sport

Despite the season being only three weeks old, this weekend's Premiership fixtures are the last before a two week international break for the World Cup qualifiers. Chelsea and Liverpool will aim to cement their place at the top of the Premiership, while Arsenal and Spurs look to kick start their season. Meanwhile at Sandown, as the flat season draws to a close they play host to the Solario Stakes at 2:35pm on Saturday.

Arsenal v Newcastle, Saturday, Setanta Sports 1, 5:30pm

Arsenal and Newcastle return from mid-week cup duty as they meet at the Emirates on Saturday. Both sides were victors in their respective ties, although Arsenal were much more comfortable in victory.

The Gunners 4-0 win over Steve McLaren's FC Twente completed a 6-0 aggregate win as they eased into the group stages of the Champions League. However, this impressive European form has not yet translated to the Premiership, as they followed up a slim 1-0 win over new boys West Brom with a 1-0 defeat to Fulham last week. Newcastle survived a scare in the Carling Cup as they needed extra time to overcome a Coventry side that twice came from behind. It was once again Michael Owen who sealed the game for Keegan's side as they were taken all the way by Chris Coleman's Championship outfit.

Arsenal are 4/9 favourites with BGbet to get their Premiership campaign back on track, and with Newcastle looking to continue their promising start with a win, Centrebet are 8/1 for a Toon victory.

If Theo Walcott scores at anytime during Arsenal v Newcastle, BGbet will refund all losing first goalscorer stakes on the match.

Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur, Sunday, Sky Sports 1, 1:30pm

Chelsea will be aiming for their third straight win to open the new campaign as they host a deflated Tottenham side looking for their first points of what was supposed to be a break through year. Phil Scolari will be urging his team to put in a performance similar to the one that overwhelmed Portsmouth on the opening day. However, they were less inspired in their next game against Wigan as they scraped a 1-0 win, similar to those seen in the Avram Grant era. Although disappointing Chelsea showed they can win even when playing poorly, a skill Spurs need to learn if they are to truly challenge the top four. They have lacked a crucial cutting edge as Dimitar Berbatov's absence has left them light up front, and his public spat with the club has left the team in turmoil. Consecutive 2-1 defeats to Middlesbrough and Sunderland has left Spurs hovering above the bottom three, and Spurs fans worried about the prospect of another season of unfulfilled promise.

VC Bet make Chelsea the 2/5 favourites to win at Stamford Bridge, and Betwithred price up Tottenham at 13/2 to record their first victory of the season.

If Florent Malouda scores at anytime during Chelsea v Tottenham, BGbet will refund all losing first goalscorer stakes on the match.

Aston Villa v Liverpool, Sunday, Sky Sports 1, 4:00pm

Fresh from their midweek European exploits, Villa and Liverpool meet at Villa Park where Gareth Barry may find himself a target for both sets of fans. Following his public courting of Liverpool this summer that angered many Villa fans, Barry this week pledged to stay at Villa till at least the end of the season. Villa will be hoping their early season scoring spree of seven goals in two games continues, although they will want to tighten up at the back having also conceded five goals in that time. Three of those goals came in the defeat to Stoke last week, and it will be that inconsistency Martin O'Neill will look to eradicate as they aim to challenge for a Champions League spot. Liverpool made the most of their Champions League place as they qualified for the group stages on Wednesday. However, they made hard work of it, leaving it until the last minute of extra time to see off Belgian underdogs Standard Liege as Dirk Kuyt's late goal ensured their place in the competition for the fifth straight year.

Aston Villa are the 2/1 underdogs with Centrebet , while Betwithred make Liverpool slight favourites at 11/10.

If Aston Villa v Liverpool finishes 0-0 BGbet will refund all losing correct score bets on that game.

If Gareth Barry scores at anytime during Aston Villa v Liverpool, BGbet will refund all losing first goalscorer stakes on the match.

Celtic v Rangers, Sunday, Setanta Sports 1, 12:30pm

The Old Firm square up for the first time this season at Celtic Park on Sunday, as Celtic look to defend their championship for the fourth consecutive year. Home advantage played a big part in last year's derby games, as the home side were triumphant in all four games. Two of those games were at Celtic Park over eleven days in April, and were the turning point in the championship as the home side opened up a five point gap following consecutive victories. Celtic left it late in the first of those victories, as Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored the winner in injury time as Celtic won 2-1 to close the gap to then leaders Rangers to a single point. Celtic carried the momentum of those victories through to the end of the season to claim the title again, and Rangers will be keen to start this season better than they finished the last one. Rangers have Kenny Miller returning for his seventh Old Firm game, having played for both sides of the Glasgow divide, scoring for Celtic against the Gers in 2006. He can expect a lively reception form both sets of fans in what is billed as the worlds most fierce derby rivalry.

Celtic are the Evens favourites with VC Bet, although Rangers are as big as 11/5 with BGbet, in what is usually a tight game.

If Aiden McGeady scores at anytime during Celtic v Rangers, BGbet will refund all losing first goalscorer stakes on the match.

Weekend Racing from Sandown, Live on Channel 4, Saturday, 2:00pm

This weekend's big race is the Solario Stakes on Saturday from Sandown (2.35pm).

The Cheka is the clear favourite in what is an otherwise open race, thanks to his win at Ascot. That was an impressive display on debut for the 2 year old, and associates will be hoping for a repeat performance. There are four previous winning jockeys in the race, including last year's winner Jimmy Fortune aboard Parisian Art. That win was Fortune's third in six years; can he continue his fantastic record in this race?

Frankie Dettori saddles Cry of Freedom this year, looking to repeat his 2004 victory on Windsor Knot, while Richard Hughes and Phillip Robinson are also looking for repeat victories here. King's Ironbridge was Hughes' ride back in 2000 when they cam home at 10/1, this year he is aboard the similarly large priced Instalment. Phil Robinson's win nine years ago came at an even larger 20/1 on the aptly named Best of the Bests, he looks to have another good chance this year with Sri Putra.

BGbet are running a great refund offer at Sandown this weekend.
