A 5-2 home win over Finnish club, Honka, saw the Danish club through but in between now and the next round of the Europa League, Aarhus will play host to the 1st Division title-winners, Vejle, at their Ceres Park & Arena in this Superliga season opener for the two clubs.
Aarhus have lost just two of their last 12 matches at home in the Danish top flight and have also won three of their last four, but they’ve beaten Vejle by a 2-goal margin or more in just one of their last encounters at home, and with a Europa League tie coming up, the hosts may just struggle to put Vejle away here.
Vejle Preview – Can Vejle catch Aarhus off guard?
As mentioned earlier, Vejle romped to the Danish 1st Division title at the end of last season by a nine-point margin over runners-up, Viborg, and they’ll be keen to continue their momentum into this new Superliga campaign starting on Monday night away at Aarhus.
Vejle last appeared in the Superliga two seasons ago which ended in relegation after the visitors managed just two wins from their final 11 matches, but although this sequence was a miserable one overall, it also included a 2-2 draw at Monday’s opponents, Aarhus.
With just two defeats out of their last 13 matches away from home in all competitions, Vejle look to stand a decent chance of keeping things tight away at Aarhus in this clash, especially as they’ve been stubborn opponents against their hosts in previous visits.
