Aberdeen sit in third place and level on 46 points with Kilmarnock but five points adrift of Rangers as they prepare for the visit of bottom club St Mirren to Pittodrie as the hosts look to bounce back from their recent 4-2 defeat at home to Rangers.
Previously, Aberdeen had lost just one of their previous nine league matches which was a 4-3 loss to Celtic, but seven wins from these nine matches have consolidated Aberdeen’s position in the Championship Round and they now hold a useful 13 point cushion over 7th placed Motherwell.
The Dons now seem certain of a top six finish in the Scottish top flight and they possess a fairly decent home record of 7-2-4 25/17 although the recent visits of Celtic and Rangers have made a dent in the loss column in recent weeks.
Midfielders Mackay-Steven and Ferguson (4 goals apiece) along with forward Cosgrove (13 goals) lead the way for the hosts who will be keen to return to winning ways against the bottom club here, having thumped St Mirren earlier in the season.

Onto St Mirren then and the bottom club find themselves a massive and unassailable 25 points adrift of the Championship Round pack ahead of their trip to Aberdeen, so all the visitors can hope for now is that they can start picking up points when the season splits into the two phases – the Championship and Relegation Rounds.
St Mirren head into this clash having lost their last six league matches on the trot with defeats to St Johnstone, Kilmarnock, Celtic, Hibernian, Rangers and Motherwell which has left them firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premiership with just 12 points to their name.
An away record of 1-2-9 8/31 further reflects the problems St Mirren have had this season and the prospects of them retaining their Premiership status don’t look good as they possess the worst defensive record away from home in the Scottish top flight.
The visitors have kept just one clean sheet on their travels this season, conceded 2 goals or more in 10 of their 12 away matches and have failed to score in 5 of these 12 matches also.
