Leaders Celtic face another examination of their title challenge when they travel to Pittodrie and take on an Aberdeen side who are in a race to finish in the top six.

Aberdeen Preview – Can Dons bounce back to form and upset league leaders?

Aberdeen returned from the winter break with an excellent performance and a decent result when drawing 1-1 at home to Rangers. If anything, the only disappointment from that game was they never took all three points from it. That looked to have set them up for a productive second half to the campaign and possibly even in with a shout of challenging for third – which was their aim at the beginning of the season.

Since that draw, the Dons have picked up only one point from their next three league games – that coming away to Ross County last midweek. They’ve lost to St Mirren and Livingston and it’s a run which has seen them fall to seventh place and in what that collection of teams all challenging for a top six finish.

Aberdeen do have the advantage of having played a game less than all the teams above them, though, and will feel if they can win that it would see them back in with a shout for fourth place which appears to be the best they can hope for now.

Their home form remains decent with six wins and two draws from 11 league matches at Pittodrie. Their last defeat here was back at the beginning of November and have taken 10 points from 12 since then.

Celtic Preview – Are Celtic set to maintain their lead at the top and make it seven straight wins?

Celtic began this year six points behind Rangers. Five league matches into 2022 and Ange Postecoglou’s men have not only reduced that gap but actually overtaken their arch rivals and now lead the Premiership by one point. The Hoops have won all six of their matches this year, five of which have been in the league. Last week’s 3-0 win the derby was undoubtedly the highlight but their general performances have been of a very high standard.

Sunday’s 4-0 win against Motherwell was arguably the best 90 minute performance of the season for Celtic and one of the reasons for that is the options that are available to Postecoglou now – allowing him to rotate players in key positions to maintain the intensity and energy levels.

Celtic are looking to go 20 league games unbeaten and make it 17 wins from that run of games with victory here. There’s 13 game remaining in the league season and whilst they are the form team in the country, nothing has been won yet.

Liel Abada has not had the same attention as some of the other players arriving at Celtic this season but the Israeli winger was on the score sheet for the ninth time in the league on Sunday, his 14th overall. He also assisted two of the goals and is rapidly improving with each game.

Aberdeen vs Celtic Betting Advice

Despite their contrasting fortunes coming into this game, I expect Celtic to face a much more competitive match than many are predicting. Aberdeen have shown they can compete with the Glasgow clubs this season, taking points in both meetings against Rangers whilst also running Celtic close in earlier games – both of them finishing 2-1 to the visitors.

There’s enough experience and talent in the host’s squad to think they can trouble their opponents.

Key Facts –  Aberdeen vs Celtic Betting Tip

  • Aberdeen are without a league win in 2022, with two draws and two defeats so far
  • Celtic have kept eight clean sheets in their last 11 league games (winning 10 of them)
  • Both previous meetings this season have went the way of Celtic by a score of 2-1

Celtic have kept a lot of clean sheets this season and also have the best defensive record in the league but Aberdeen do carry a threat. The Dons have scored in nine of their 11 home matches in the league whilst Celtic have conceded in nine of their last 12 away games. Take both teams to score here.
