It’s been a disappointing week for Celtic and they need to respond at a difficult venue where Aberdeen have won four of their last five in the Premiership.

Aberdeen Preview – Can Dons go level on points with Celtic as they chase rare win over champions?

Derek McInnes’ could barely be bringing his Aberdeen into this game in better form. Tuesday’s 4-2 win at home to Hamilton has pulled them to within three points of Celtic and they can go joint second if they win here tomorrow. It’s long been a criticism for this Dons team, how they fare when they come up against the big two. A pretty toothless 1-0 loss at home to Rangers on the opening day did little to change that opinion, but that seems as long time ago now.

Aberdeen have lost just 0nce in their nine league games after that and have many more options available to them, personnel wise.

A big difference to this current team and the ones that have fallen to Celtic previously is they look much more threatening going forward. Sam Cosgrove has been missing all season and having been the main point of attack the past couple of seasons, the responsibility is being shared across the team. Lewis Ferguson is in excellent goal scoring form from midfield whilst Marley Watkins and Ryan Edmondson have added pace and power up top. They’ll be looking to take advantage of what has been a vulnerable Celtic defence.
Aberdeen’s last win against Celtic at Pittodrie was over four years ago so they’ll feel it’s long overdue.

Celtic Preview – Will we see Lennon’s men return to winning ways after two home losses?

As week’s go it’s been fairly miserable for Celtic. A 2-0 defeat at home to Rangers seen them slip four points behind their rivals and that was then followed with a 3-1 reverse against Milan in their opening Europa League group game. Had it not been for a spirited second half performance against the Italians then the mood coming into this match may have been even worse. As it is, Neil Lennon will be hoping that he sees the same standard from the outset, tomorrow.

Ryan Christie, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Tom Rogic were all impressive in that second half and will be hoping to start having come off the bench.

Overall it’s been a stuttering season for the champions, which in some way is a credit to them that they could be a point off top spot with a win tomorrow. But it’s not been good enough and Lennon is aware of that. The new signing have not had the desired impact and the switch to a 3-5-2 hasn’t worked.

Whilst it’s still early in the season, any dropped points here coupled with a Rangers win later on Sunday would see real pressure on Lennon and his players. They’re used to dealing with it and have to do so again.

Aberdeen vs Celtic Betting Advice

These teams will go again in seven days times when they meet in the delayed Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden. That will be very much in the back of both team’s minds, however, as all focus is on the three points up for grabs. I mentioned Aberdeen’s last win at home to Celtic and since 2016, the Hoops have won on all eight of their visits. They really need to be making that nine.

You have to go all the way back to 1994 for the last time Celtic lost three successive games.

Key Facts – Aberdeen vs Celtic Betting Tip

  • Aberdeen are enjoying an excellent season to date with seven wins in their first 10 games
  • Defeat to Rangers in the derby means Celtic are four points behind rivals, albeit having played a game less
  • Celtic have won the last eight meetings with Aberdeen at Pittodrie

It’s going to be a real test of Celtic’s character and would be naive to write them off. Their record here is great but this could be a lively one for them. Seven of Aberdeen’s last nine home games in the league have went over 2.5 and that’s the bet on this occasion with the home team looking to take the game to their opponents.
