Aberdeen Preview – Can Dons end their winless run and heap more misery on their opponents?

Aberdeen’s defeat to St Mirren last week mean the Dons are now without a win in their last eight games. It’s a run which stretches back to the middle of August and it is becoming wearing for Steven Glass who is finding out the harsh realities of Scottish football. Glass is attempting to implement a new style of play at Aberdeen and whilst performances are improving the results are yet to follow.

That is creating some unrest amongst the supporters who will be looking for a big performance against a faltering Celtic team. Aberdeen could go above their opponents and back into the top six with a win on Sunday.

(odds taken 2000 GMT, Wednesday 29 September)

The league season started well for the Dons with seven points from their first three games. It’s the proceeding four games which are the cause of some worry. One point from a possible 12 and three straight defeats is never going to be acceptable for a club who are attempting to finish third.

It looked like Aberdeen were going to get the monkey off their back last week when visiting St Mirren and 2-1 up heading into the second half. However a red card shortly after half-time and concession of two goals to lose the match is only adding further pressure to the players and management.

Celtic Preview – Will Celtic finally break their terrible away record and get a vital three points?

It may just be seven games into the Premiership season but Celtic are already six points behind rivals Rangers who sit top of the table. Any suggestion that the title race is over had irked Ange Postecoglou and whilst he is right that it is too early to call it, if Celtic don’t begin to show improvement – even accounting for their horrendous injury list – then the margin between themselves and the leaders will only increase.

The latest setback was a 1-1 draw at home to Dundee United. Despite having a smattering of very good chances it was a laboured performance and Celtic failed to build any real pressure. It was the first dropped points at home in the league this season and also the first time they have conceded at Celtic Park in the Premiership.

It’s the away form which remains the biggest issue, though. This will be Celtic’s fourth game on the road in the league and they are yet to even win a point. Rangers and Livingston have both beaten them without the Hoops scoring whilst Hearts won 2-1 on the opening day of the season.

Postecoglou is clearly determined to play a certain way and has reiterated his determination to stick to that despite of the results and glaring deficiencies in defence. That is admirable in a way but if Celtic lose this game then they will be in the bottom six and a minimum of seven points off top.

Aberdeen vs Celtic Betting Advice

This game brings together two coaches who are trying to get their teams playing with an identity and both are finding out just how difficult that is. Aberdeen and Celtic have had a big turnover of players over the last few months and injuries for the latter are certainly hampering them, but results have to be better for both.

You have to go all the way back to 2016 for the last time Aberdeen beat Celtic at home but this must be the best opportunity for a while with the Hoops looking so fragile on their travels.

Key Facts – Aberdeen vs Celtic Betting Tip

  • Aberdeen are in the bottom six of the league with pressure beginning to build on Steven Glass
  • Celtic’s last away win in the Scottish Premiership was back in February – a run of eight games
  • You have to go back to 2016 for the last time Celtic lost at Pittodrie

Celtic might be able to welcome back captain Callum McGregor and potentially a couple of their forward players with Kyogo Furuhashi the biggest miss over the last month or so.

The last four matches between these teams have been tight affairs with a total of six goals in them. Before that it was a fixture which had plenty of entertainment, however, with the previous nine containing 30 goals.

With Celtic games averaging over three goals this season it seems likely this will be a higher-scoring game so back over 2.5 goals
