Aberdeen Preview – Will the Dons’ recover from last week’s humiliation and move back into third spot?

Feelings of frustration are never far away from Aberdeen’s supporters and that’s certainly the case at the moment. Last weekend’s 4-1 thumping loss away to Ross County was the last straw for some and they are calling for change. Derek McInnes will have been in charge of the club eight years this April and is the longest-serving manager in the Premiership. It’s unlikely he will be sacked on the basis of their current situation but he knows they have to improve.

It followed a home loss to Rangers the week prior and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight loss. The motivation is there for Aberdeen as a win would put them back into third above Hibs with another game in hand to come.

Despite their struggles of late, Aberdeen do possess a good home record with seven wins and two draws from their 12 league games at Pittodrie. Only Rangers and Celtic have scored more home goals as well so they can take some encouragement from that from.
Key to Aberdeen’s chances will be the form of Lewis Ferguson. Top scorer with eight goals from midfield, it’s no surprise that his drop off in form has coincided with the team’s poorer performances. They need him to bounce back in this one.

Motherwell Preview – Can Graham Alexander lead ‘Well to a first win in thirteen games and ease relegation fears?

It’s surprising to see Motherwell – who finished third last season – off the bottom of the table only by virtue of a better goal difference than Hamilton. However, the run was enough to see Stephen Robinson resign from the club and make way for Graham Alexander. Alexander’s first two games in charge have ended in 1-1 draws against St Mirren and Rangers. ‘Well took the lead in both games and although disappointed not to hold in in either of them, it is something to build on.

With Hamilton not playing this weekend it does provide Alexander’s men a chance to put some distance between themselves and their Lanarkshire rivals.

You have to go all the way back to Halloween for the last time Motherwell celebrated victory in the league, which explains why they are in the position they’re in. Since then they have have lost seven of their next 12 and failing to score in five of them. It is dire form but they remain unbeaten under Alexander.

Scoring goals has been an issue throughout the season with only St Mirren and Ross County scoring fewer, whilst the latter of those and Hamilton are the only teams with a worse defensive record.

Aberdeen vs Motherwell Betting Advice

The teams have met twice already this season with Motherwell unbeaten so far. Arguably their best performance and result of the season is the 3-0 win at Pittodrie back in September. More recently the teams played out a goalless draw just before Christmas but it was a game which Aberdeen dominated.

Interestingly, both teams have scored in just one of the last 13 meetings between the teams so it might not be free-scoring, especially as neither team are in the best of form.

Key Facts – Aberdeen vs Motherwell Betting Tip

  • Aberdeen went down 4-1 away to Ross County last week meaning it’s one win in five now
  • Motherwell’s last victory was all the way back on the 31st October – losing six oft their last 11
  • It was a surprise 3-0 win for Motherwell the last time the teams met at Pittodrie

With the improvement Motherwell have shown the last couple of weeks in difficult fixtures, it should prepare them well for another. Aberdeen do not look in the best of shape at the moment and losing four goals is unlike them. With wins on their last two visits it could be value siding with them here.
