Aberdeen Preview – Can Dons continue strong home form and overtake opponents into third?
Third spot was Aberdeen’s objective in terms of the league this season but they have a battle on their hands with Motherwell for it. Derek McInnes’ men are one point behind tomorrow’s opponents but can go above them should they take victory at Pittodrie. It’s been something of a strange season for Aberdeen with results being pretty consistent yet supporters disappointed with some of their performances.
In the main, they have been impressive at home with Celtic being the only domestic side to have beaten them this season. Seven wins from 11 games (a draw against Rangers) will give them confidence they can get the better of ‘Well tomorrow.
Sam Cosgrove has taken his form to a new level for Aberdeen this season. The striker scored his 20th goal in all competitions with the winner in their Scottish Cup victory at the weekend. It’s already his best tally for any one season and he is on course to beat his 17 league goals from last season.
Motherwell Preview – Will Motherwell make it five straight away wins to remain above Aberdeen in the table?
The winter break would have been a long one for Motherwell and their manager Stephen Robinson. Defeat to Hamilton in the Lanarkshire derby is not the way he would have been anticipating rounding off what was a wonderful 2019 all in. Due to Aberdeen only drawing away to Hearts on the same say means ‘Well still hold on to third place which is probably deserving of their efforts to this stage.
Robinson knows there is plenty of football left to play and if his side are to finish third then they have to having a similar end to the campaign as they did start. Thr Fir Park club won five of their first eight matches in the league.

One aspect of the season which Robinson will be delighted with is how regularly his team have picked up points on their travels. Motherwell have already equalled their total away wins from last season (six) and it’s a major factor as to why they are challenge for Europe than just attempting to finish in the top six.
Interestingly, three of their next four away games are all against teams battling against relegation.
