Aberdeen are on a dire run of form just now and know they will be up against it when facing a St Mirren team who are hoping to cement their place in the top six.

Aberdeen Preview – Can Aberdeen end a run of four games without scoring a goal?

The pressure has been increasing on Derek McInnes over the last couple of months but the Aberdeen manager was given a vote of confidence from the club’s board this week and they’ll be hoping that results in a more positive performance and three points from tomorrow’s game. Last weekend’s 2-0 loss away to Hibs was the Dons’ four game without a win and they have also failed to score in any of those matches.

Aberdeen have slipped to fourth place and five points behind Hibs in third, but they do still have a game in hand. They’ll have to improve significantly on what we’ve seen recently, however, or could yet fall further.

The turnover in attacking options during the January transfer window was significant within the Aberdeen squad so it shouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them struggling for goals just now. Sam Cosgrove was the most notable departure and he was joined by Curtis Main, Scott Wright, Ryan Edmondson and Bruce Anderson.
Fraser Hornby, Callum Hendry and Florian Kamberi are the three players who have arrived and tasked with finding the goal contributions to improve the team’s fortunes but there remains plenty of work to do to find the right balance and structure in attack.

St Mirren Preview – Will Saints bounce back from heavy home defeat at home to Celtic in midweek?

St Mirren were mocked before the start of the season when setting their objective as a top six finish for the season. For a team who have been dogged by relegation fights over the last couple of years it was a bold claim but one that was well placed, it seems. The Buddies sit in sixth place at the moment. They’re one point ahead of the team directly below them and two games in hand over that rival.

Wednesday’s 4-0 loss at home to Celtic was a setback and although St Mirren were below the levels they have set recently, the three late goals conceded mean the score was not a true reflection on the match.

Perhaps the more damaging impact of that match is the loss of their top scorer Jamie McGrath. McGrath went off with a shoulder injury and likely to miss the next few games. He joins Kristian Dennis and Eamonn Brophy on the sidelines and all three are crucial to the way which St Mirren play and attack.

St Mirren have four straight matches at home after this game (three of them against teams in the bottom half). As such they know it’s going to be a crucial part of the campaign as they look to secure that top six finish.

Aberdeen vs St Mirren Betting Advice

This will be the fourth meeting between the teams  already this season. The previous three have been very evenly matched. Aberdeen came from behind late on to win the last match here before St Mirren knocked the Dons out the League Cup with their most recent game ending in a 1-1 draw.

The visitors will feel they are overdue a win here with their last victory at Pittodrie coming back in 2011.

Key Facts – Aberdeen vs St Mirren Betting Tip

  • Aberdeen have won just one of their last eight games, failing to score in five of them
  • St Mirren are looking to win a third straight away match following victories against Dundee United and Celtic
  • It is nearly 10 years (May 2011) since St Mirren last won away to Aberdeen in any competition

With Aberdeen’s misfiring attacking coupled with St Mirren missing most of their key attackers this could well be a match of few chances. Four of the last seven meetings have finished with under 2.5 goals and that’s my selection here.
