AC Milan Preview – Rossoneri hot favourites to sustain European push?

The Rossoneri have been in terrific form since the resumption of Serie A. Wednesday’s come-from-behind win at the San Siro against Parma, who took the lead shortly before half-time but were unable to withstand a much improved showing from the hosts after the interval, as AC Milan (7th – W14 D8 L10) scored three times without reply, maintained their unbeaten run and means they have now claimed 17 of the last 21 available points.

AC Milan consolidated their position in seventh – good enough to qualify for next season’s Europa League – by extending their unbeaten league run to seven games (W5 D2). During which time they would score two or more goals in every encounter, one more than was managed across their opening twenty-six Serie A matches of this season. Emphasising the level of improvement made in the attacking third as of late.

Meanwhile, a second quick-fire victory would make it four on the spin at San Siro, with the 3-1 victory over Parma in midweek following the 2-0 and 4-2 successes earned against top-five duo AS Roma and Juventus, respectively. AC Milan have now lost one of their last ten home league games (W5 D4 L1), while they last achieved four consecutive home wins in the competition in March 2018.

Bologna Preview – Rossoblu out to claim another notable scalp?

The Emilia-Romagna-based outfit have proven a capable foil for Serie A’s elite this season, and Wednesday night was another instance of Sinisa Mihajlovic’s team rising the occasion against a supposedly superior side. The 1-1 draw with Napoli, who they also happened to beat 2-1 in Naples earlier in the campaign, also maintained their own solid form post-restart. Bologna (10th – W11 D9 L12) having now taken nine of a possible 21 points.

Their points return may not sound overly impressive at initial glance, however, four of said opponents currently reside in the top-half of the table and includes a noteworthy 2-1 victory at Saturday’s venue as Bologna inflicted a surprise defeat on the other Milanese giant, Inter Milan. Gambian striker Musa Barrow netted the decisive winner on that occasion and now has four goals in five starts.

Barrow, at 21 years-of-age, has been this season’s breakout star for the Rossoblu with the on-loan Atalanta forward now up to eight league goals for the season and is evidently enjoying a purple patch. As are Bologna, who have now tasted defeat just once in their last six league games (W2 D3 L1) and would claim seven of nine points away to Sampdoria (1-2), Inter Milan (1-2) and Parma (2-2) since the restart.

AC Milan Vs Bologna Betting Advice

Barring Juventus, Bologna have taken points off of just about every top team at one stage or another in 2019-20. So, AC Milan must keep their wits about them ahead of Saturday’s contest at the San Siro, where Bologna would sample victory as recently as the first week of July when stunning Inter Milan to win 2-1, despite trailing 1-0 and conceding a penalty.

AC Milan Vs Bologna – Key Facts

  • The Rossoneri, who are still to be beaten in Serie A seven games (W5 D2) since the resumption, have scored at least two goals in seven successive league games.
  • Bologna have now lost one of their last six league games (W2 D3 L1), with all six featuring both teams among the goals.
  • Four of five recent Serie A meetings between AC Milan and Bologna have produced at least one goal for both teams, with AC Milan victorious on each of these occasions – winning 3-2 at Bologna in December of this season.

Nevertheless, AC Milan are flying at the moment. Five wins out of seven, scoring two or more in all seven. It is imperious stuff from the Rossoneri, who still have work to do to ensure qualification into next season’s Europa League. I expect the hosts to prevail, although it might not be plain-sailing: Bologna have scored at least once in six straight games while AC Milan boast only two clean sheets in seven.
