AC Milan – Pioli demanding swift return to winning ways?

Ante Rebic found the net for the third consecutive appearance against Juventus to ensure the points were shared in Turin on Sunday evening. Maintaining his team’s unbeaten start to the Serie A season in the process. AC Milan boast as many points (10) as cross-city rivals Inter through four rounds, winning each of the first three fixtures, against Sampdoria, Cagliari and Lazio, before a 1-1 draw at Allianz Stadium.

Stefano Pioli can view the point at Juventus as positive, bearing in mind his side fell behind inside the opening minutes. The Rossoneri may even have won it at the end but fluffed their lines. It means the 18-time national champions are currently unbeaten in nine successive league games, a stunning run comprising seven wins (six to nil), seven clean sheets and only two conceded since losing 3-0 to Lazio on April 26.

Key Stat: AC Milan have scored three times during the second half across their last six Serie A matches, doing so only twice so far this season (out of eight goals scored in 2021-22).

Venezia – Step up in class already apparent?

Considering they have already faced two teams that were either promoted ahead of this season or the one previous, a return of three points from four games may not seem all that impressive – but it is still one more than Juventus have to their name! Venezia came agonisingly close to fourth at home to Spezia on Saturday, only to be denied at the death after conceding in the 94 minute to lose 2-1.

There are, however, positives for coach Paolo Zanetti. Such as his team putting to nil losses away in Napoli and Udinese on the first couple matchdays behind them by scoring three across two subsequent league outings, with two coming in their 2-1 away win against Empoli. That makes it ten away league games out of the last twelve scoring at least once, albeit the majority of them were in Serie B last term.

Key Stat: There has been a goal scored in the 89th minute or later in each of Venezia’s previous three Serie A matches.

AC Milan Vs Venezia Betting Advice

The Rossoneri dropped their first points of the season last time against Juventus, and so won’t be in any mood for a repeat occurrence when they welcome recently promoted Venezia to the San Siro. That aforementioned Turin stalemate marked only the second league game in nine AC Milan had conceded in, highlighting the tough task in front of Venezia who already have two blanks in front of goal to their name.

AC Milan Vs Venezia – Key Facts:

  • Newly promoted Venezia slumped to their third Serie A defeat in four (W1) during Matchday 4. Their only points coming in a 2-1 win away from home over Empoli.
  • AC Milan were held on the road by Juventus last time, ending their perfect start in Serie A, but did at least stretch their unbeaten league run to nine matches (W7).
  • The pair are meeting for the first time in any capacity since the 2001-02 Serie A season, when a 1-1 draw at San Siro preceded a 4-1 away win for AC Milan.

Injuries are mounting for Milan. The home side are expected to be without both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud for this. Those absences certainly affected them in their most recent outing, in what was their worst attacking display of the season based on xG (0.95). Wednesday’s opponents are of the more obliging variety, though, conceding 2+ in three of four Serie A games so far. Venezia are looking to net for the third game running, though.
