Accrington Stanley will be going in search of another three points on Saturday afternoon when they take on mid-table Cambridge United at their Wham Stadium in League Two, to further strengthen their claims for automatic promotion.
Accrington have won four of their last five league matches with wins over Stevenage, Swindon Town, Coventry City and Crewe Alexandra, and aside from a temporary blip which saw them suffer a 2-1 defeat away at Crawley Town, Accrington had also racked up four wins prior to that loss.
It’s perhaps no surprise then that John Coleman’s men are challenging for promotion up to League One, and with a solid home record of 11-2-3 32/17 under their belts, as well as having won their last five on the trot at home, they look set for further success here.
Cambridge United sit in 13th place in League Two but are closer to the play-off pack than the relegation zone in terms of points, as they make their way up to Lancashire for this encounter. But although United are just seven points adrift of the top seven, they’re a whopping 14 points behind Accrington Stanley.
One of the main reasons why Cambridge aren’t in the top half of the division is their rather poor looking away record which stands at 3-5-9 13/32 although they have won their last three league matches on the trot with victories over Chesterfield, Grimsby Town and most notable of all, Notts County.
It should be noted though, that the latter two results were at their Cambs Glass Stadium, while the win at Chesterfield was against a side who currently sit second from bottom in the division.
