Accrington Stanley were denied potential back-to-back wins in League Two last weekend when their game against Morecambe was abandoned due to bad weather with Stanley holding a 1-0 lead at home.
Accrington had previously suffered a four match losing streak which included defeats to Exeter City, Lincoln City, Crawley Town and Carlisle United, but it’s worth mentioning at this point that three of these four losses were incurred away from home.
A 3-0 win away at Grimsby Town ended this poor run, but as they were ahead in last Saturday’s home match and possess a reasonable home record of 6-2-3 19/12, I’ll have another try on the home side here.
Chesterfield are perched precariously just above the relegation zone at the bottom of League Two with just a point separating them from the bottom two clubs, Barnet and Forest Green Rovers ahead of their trip to Accrington this Saturday.
However, The Spireites had shown signs of a recovery earlier in the season as they put together a promising six match unbeaten run from the end of October to mid-December which included wins over Exeter City, Forest Green Rovers and Barnet (all of which were at their Proact Stadium).
But they’ve since slumped to five games without a win which includes four defeats to Wycombe Wanderers, Stevenage, Crewe Alexandra and Coventry City. Three of these four defeats were inflicted upon them away from home, and with a poor away record of 1-3-9 12/28 under their belts, it’s hard to see how they’ll get a result at Accrington today.
