Accrington Stanley haven’t played a League Two match since 2nd January this year when they beat Mansfield Town 3-2 away from home, and no doubt they’ll be keen to get their season back on track tonight when they host struggling Hartlepool United.
Accrington still remain in the play-off pack despite their recent lack of action as they look to take advantage of their five matches behind some teams above them, but they’ll be playing catch-up for the next few weeks starting this evening. Stanley have won three of their last five with wins over Cambridge United, York City and Mansfield Town while their home record stands at 4-3-2 18/15.
It’s interesting to note that 8 of Accrington’s 9 home matches to date have resulted in both teams hitting the back of the net, and given Accrington’s lack of action recently, this evening’s clash could also go the same way.
Visitors Hartlepool United have been involved in FA Cup action in the last few weeks as they beat National League outfit Cheltenham Town, followed by a victory over Salford City before falling victim to Championship side Derby County 2-1 at Victoria Park in the third round.
Pools now return to League Two action tonight as they look to pull away from the bottom two in the division and also build upon their 1-0 win over play-off candidates Wycombe Wanderers last time out.
Hartlepool’s away record stands at a below-par 3-0-7 8/18 and they’ve lost four of their last five matches on the road with defeats at Northampton Town, AFC Wimbledon, Mansfield Town and Portsmouth, so they’ll also be keen for a good showing tonight.
