The Greek Super League continues on Monday night with one match being played, which is a bottom half clash between AEL Larissa and Panathinaikos at the AEL Arena with both teams not completely out of the woods yet with regards to a relegation battle.
Upon first glance, the suggestion that AEL Larissa might get something out of this match against Panathinaikos might appear to be absurd, and having gone six league matches without a win in the Greek top flight, this would seem to confirm this view.
However, looking at their results at home, you’ll see that AEL Larissa have lost just once so far this season amidst an overall stubborn, if not spectacular, 3-6-1 6/6 which includes wins over Levadiakos, Apollon Smirnis and Xanthi, as well as holding the likes of league leaders, PAOK, second placed AEK Athens and fifth placed Panionios, to stalemates.
Panathinaikos are enduring a wretched season by their previous high standards as they sit in a very disappointing 11th place and just two points ahead of tonight’s opponents, AEL Larissa ahead of this clash.
The visitors have produced some good results at home where they too have lost just once so far in this campaign, but it’s been their results away from home which have seen the proverbial wheels come off, with a poor record of 0-5-6 7/17 to date.
Overall, Panathinaikos have won just twice in their last 12 outings, which is bad enough, but away from home, they’re still yet to register a win and they’ll be up against a stubborn Larissa outfit tonight.
