AFC Fylde Preview – Can Fylde pull themselves out of mire?
It’s back to the harsh reality of the National League for AFC Fylde and their current problems of battling against relegation on Tuesday night as they prepare for the visit of high-flying Notts County to their Mill Farm Stadium with a valuable three points up for grabs.
Although Fylde have been involved in cup competitions in recent weeks after suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Premier League side Sheffield United but bouncing back with an emphatic 4-1 win against Southport in the FA Trophy, it’s back to business on Tuesday night as the hosts look to put an end to a 6-match stretch without a win.
This slump in form has resulted in defeats to Barnet, Stockport County and Barrow, and although they’ve picked up points in draws with Sutton United, Yeovil Town and Barrow, it means that Fylde have picked up just 3 points from the last possible 18 on offer in the National League.
A reasonable home record of 4-5-5 15/19 has been let down recently by a 4-match run without a win on home turf, and indeed, Fylde have won just 1 of their last 8 matches at their Mill Farm Stadium too.
Notts CountyPreview – Can Notts County continue momentum?
A 2-1 home win against fellow National League opponents, Dagenham & Redbridge, in the FA Trophy extended Notts County’s unbeaten run in all competitions to 8 matches as Neal Ardley’s side are building impressive momentum at just about the right time.
Following their disastrous relegation down to the National League at the end of last season, The Magpies made a shaky start to life in the non-league top flight as they were without a win from their first 3 matches, losing 2 of these against Eastleigh and Barnet, Notts County slowly found their feet and are now progressing nicely.
The visitors trail the league leaders, Barrow, by a margin of 9 points but all three points away at struggling AFC Fylde would see this deficit slashed to just 6 points, and having won 4 of their last 5 matches overall in the National League, this certainly can’t be ruled out here.
County have also suffered just 1 defeat out of their last 5 matches on the road amidst an overall away record of 5-4-5 21/17, and recent wins against Halifax, Maidenhead United, Solihull Moors and Bromley should give them confidence ahead of this clash.
