AFC Wimbledon Preview – Can Wombles secure safety?
A point for AFC Wimbledon in today’s clash against Portsmouth would seal the host’s League One status for another season and having put together a six-match unbeaten run in the third tier, Wimbledon look set to get something from this clash.
A recent four-match winning streak which included victories over Accrington Stanley, Ipswich Town, Swindon Town and Oxford United, helped the hosts out of the relegation zone and they now sit six points clear of fourth from bottom outfit, Rochdale.
Three of these four wins have also been picked up at home while five of their last six matches have also seen over 2.5 goals while 14 of Wimbledon’s 22 home games have also resulted in over 2.5 goals.
Portsmouth Preview – Can Pompey pick up vital win?
A wobbling Portsmouth will make the trip to Wimbledon on the back of just one win out of their last six matches which came in the form of a 1-0 home win over relegated Bristol Rovers, but although the visitors have suffered defeats to Burton Albion, MK Dons and Swindon Town, Pompey still occupy the last remaining play-off spot.
However, given Portsmouth’s recent results their position looks a precarious one as they only hold a slender one point lead over Oxford United and just two points ahead of Charlton Athletic, while just two away wins from their last nine outings on the road by no means guarantees an away win here for Pompey.
Portsmouth’s need for a win here cannot be under-estimated though and they’ll be pushing for all three points here which could see a few goals unfold at Kingsmeadow.
