AIK will once again turn to their home ground advantage of their Friends Arena when they play host to Zeljeznicar in the second leg of this second qualifying round with the scores still level at 0-0.
It’s a similar pattern to AIK Stockholm’s previous tie with Ki where they drew 0-0 away from home in the first leg, but then secured their passage into this round with a comfortable 5-0 win in the home leg. AIK would no doubt be happy with a repeat of that performance here tonight.
AIK have a reasonable record in the Europa League as they’ve lost just twice in their last nine matches overall, while they’ve won six of their last nine at home (and all to nil I might add!) The hosts come into this clash having registered a 1-0 home win over Norrkoping in the Swedish Allsvenskan last weekend.
Visitors Bosnian outfit, Zeljeznicar, look to have their work cut out in this evening’s second leg in Stockholm as they look to tame their hosts and progress through to the third qualifying round. Zeljeznicar also possess a pretty solid record at this level as they’ve lost just twice in their last 13 matches overall.
But just three away wins from their last nine in the Europa League suggests they may well have missed the boat in terms of progressing here, following last week’s 0-0 draw in Sarajevo, and they now appear to have a mountain to climb in Sweden on Thursday night.
This will be a close one to call, but I feel the home side just about have the edge over Zeljeznicar here this evening.
