AIK Preview – Are AIK set to end a run of eight games without a win and move away from the relegation zone?
Their 2018 title seems a long way off at the moment for all concerned with AIK as they attempt to move clear of trouble at the bottom of the table. The change of coach has not had the desired impact as Bartosz Grzelak is still looking for his first win since taking over. It’s been a baptism of fire for the Stockholm club who are much more accustomed to competing at the other end of the division.
AIK’s last win was back in the middle of July when they defeated Sirius 1-0. That remains just one of three victories for the team so far this season.
Since that last win, AIK have lost five and drawn three. In that time they have failed to score in four of those matches and kept just one clean sheet. Defensively – where they are usually so well organises – it’s been a struggle from the beginning of the campaign.

Having finished comfortably in mid-table last season, Helsingborg will not only be disappointed but surprised that they find themselves propping up the rest of the division. It’s the first real challenge for Olaf Mellberg who has so much experience as a player, not least captaining the Swedish national team. Despite that, he’s still an emerging coach and this is very much new to him.
Mellberg will celebrate a year in charge of the club next month and he’ll certainly not wanting to be doing that in bottom spot, meaning they need points in the next couple of games.

Although they are bottom, there is hope for Helsingborg. They are only there on goal difference and there’s only three points between them and IFK Goteborg who sit in 12th and four places above. That shows how tight it is at the bottom but Mellberg knows his team has to improve if they are to improve their current position.
Helsinborg have won just two of their 16 games to date and have the worst defensive record with 27 goals conceded. There yet to win a game away from home either and ending that eight game winless run on the road would be well received tomorrow.
