Ajax and Benfica square off at the Johan Cruyff Arena this Tuesday in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. If the second game is anything like the first, we should be in for a treat in Amsterdam. These two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Lisbon, and we are hoping for even more fireworks in the Dutch capital in midweek. Check out the latest Champions League odds and tips in our betting preview.

Ajax Preview – Will the Dutch champions get the job done on home soil?

Erik ten Hag’s Ajax are top of the Eredivisie after 26 games played, winning 20, drawing three and losing three. After the shock loss at Go Ahead Eagles at the end of last month, the Dutch champions have bounced back with three league and cup wins in a row.

Ajax battled hard to earn a 2-2 draw in Lisbon in the first leg. However, they led twice and were 2-1 up at the break. A draw away from home in the Champions League is a good result for any team, nevertheless.

Our betting prediction:
Ajax to win & both teams to score
13/10

If Ajax can get past Benfica in midweek, Ten Hag’s troops could be a dark horse in the last eight of the Champions League. No side will want to play the champions from Holland, and they will fancy their chances of going all the way this year.

Benfica Preview – Can the Eagles cause an upset in Amsterdam?

Benfica are currently in third spot in the Primeira Liga, a whopping 12 points behind runaway leaders Porto. Overall, the Eagles have picked up 18 wins from 26 league fixtures, drawing four and losing four of the other eight.

Since a 2-1 home league loss to Gil Vicente back in early February, Nelson Verissimo’s men are unbeaten in seven in all competitions, winning four and drawing three. One of those draws came against Ajax in the first leg of this Round of 16 Champions League tie.

Benfica showed plenty of fighting spirit in front of their home fans at the Estadio da Luz in game one, but this second leg in the Dutch capital will be a tough task for the Portuguese outfit.

Ajax vs Benfica Betting Advice

The pair played out a four-goal thriller at the Estadio da Luz last month. Dusan Tadic opened the scoring for Ajax before a Sebastien Haller own goal levelled things up. Haller then scored at the right end three minutes later to put the visitors back in front. However, Roman Yaremchuk had the last laugh, equalising in the 72nd minute.

Key Facts – Ajax vs Benfica Betting Tip

  • Ajax have won seven of their previous nine in all competitions
  • Benfica are unbeaten in seven league and cup games
  • The first leg ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw

There was nothing to split the two in the reverse fixture in Portugal, but we fancy Ajax to edge the home game on Tuesday. Check out the solid price of 3/1 for the hosts to win by one goal.

Former Southampton man Dusan Tadic opened the scoring in Lisbon three weeks back, and the Serbia international has netted three in his last four matches for Ajax. Tadic is available at 4/1 to hit the opening goal of this game.
