Alloa Preview – Can Alloa put their dire league form behind them and shock the competition’s most successful club?

Alloa were considered to be one of the favourites to win promotion from League One this season. Having been relegated from the Championship in the previous campaign, the club look to Barry Ferguson as their new manager and there was an expectation he would bring with him the success he had at Kelty Hearts. Now, more than halfway through the season, Alloa are looking over their shoulders hoping they have enough to avoid facing the relegation playoff and the potential of dropping to the fourth tier of Scottish football.

They’re currently in eighth place and just a point above Dumbarton. The optimistic supporters will feel they could still sneak a promotion playoff spot – with a six point gap between themselves and Queens Park, although they have played two games more than that rival.

(odds taken 2000 GMT, Thursday 13 January )

Ferguson will just be looking for his team to get back to winning ways a quickly as possible and relieve some of the pressure that has been building since the start of the season. Alloa’s only win in their last 10 games was the previous round of the Scottish Cup – a 5-0 win over non-league Bonnyrigg.

Alloa’s best performance in the competition in recent years was back in 2014 when they reached the 5th round. A win here would certainly surpass that and rank as the club’s best ever result.

Celtic Preview – Will Celtic avoid any upsets and make it through to the next round?

Celtic returned to action on Monday with a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Hibernian. It means they are now four points behind leaders Rangers with an important run of fixtures to come following the winter break. Ange Postecoglou was able to give debuts to three new signings, all coming in from the J-League at the start of this month. Daizen Maeda scored the opening goal whilst Yosuke Ideguchi was brought on for the closing stages. But it was Reo Hatate who stole the show with his performance in midfield.

Matt O’Riley has also come in from MK Dons this week and it is likely he could play some part in this game.

An unprecedented run of domination came to an end but they bounced back in style last month winning the League Cup and will be keen to add to their success in this competition – one which they have won 40 time already, more than any other.

The Hoops have lost just one of their last 20 games in all competitions, winning 17 of them, They are big favourites to make that 18 in 21 tomorrow.
