Last but certainly not least on Thursday night is a clash between America Mineiro and Atletico Mineiro at the Estádio Raimundo Sampaio in Belo Horizonte, and local derbies don’t get any closer than this as both teams share this ground!
America MG come into this local derby on the back of a 3-1 home win over Atletico PR which no doubt would have been a welcome relief as they’d previously suffered back-to-back defeats to Sao Paulo and Corinthians which were difficult fixtures to deal with.
It doesn’t get any easier here though either, with bragging rights up for grabs, but America Mineiro slightly edge their rivals with a home record of 4-0-1 10/5 which includes wins over Sport Recife, Vitoria, Botafogo and Atletico PR. Forward Moura (3 goals) looks the most likely for America.
Atletico Mineiro will be more than familiar with tonight’s surroundings as they also play what is essentially a home match with their local rivals, America Mineiro, as they look to halt a three match sequence without a win in Serie A.
Recent defeats to Flamengo and Sport Recife along with just a point against bottom half strugglers, Chapecoense means that Atletico join their ‘room-mates’ America, in the middle of the league table, just one point and one league position above tonight’s opposition.
Atletico possess a home record which stands at 3-1-1 7/5 and includes wins over Vitoria, Corinthians and Cruzeiro but have lost to Flamengo and drawn with Chapecoense. Guedes (6 goals) and Oliveira (4 goals) could add to their tallies here.
Atletico have had the wood over their rivals though as they’ve racked up seven straight wins in their previous meetings, but I don’t think they’ll get it all their way tonight.
