Anderlecht look to have a mountain to climb on Wednesday night when they take on German champions, Bayern Munich, at their Stade Constant Vanden Stock in Brussels on match day five in Group B.
Anderlecht sit rock bottom of the group having lost all four of their matches so far, and the once famous Belgian club have fallen a long way from grace as they’ve conceded a total of 15 goals and are yet to score themselves; a home match against Bayern Munich therefore doesn’t get any easier!
Anderlecht have lost both of their home matches so far with defeats to Celtic 3-0 and PSG 4-0 as well as being routed by Bayern Munich 3-0 and PSG 5-0 away from home as well. Confidence is therefore likely to be fragile at best for tonight’s hosts, although they still have an outside chance of claiming third place and a Europa League spot if they win both of their remaining group matches.
Visitors Bayern Munich are still not yet out of the woods themselves with regards qualifying for the knock-out rounds of this year’s Champions League, but all three points in Brussels this evening would guarantee their place in the last 16, regardless of whatever Celtic manage to do.
Bayern hold a comfortable six point cushion over Celtic heading into match day five, and with a fixture against a very leaky and weak Anderlecht outfit, the Germans should confirm second place here this evening. Bayern have won three of their four group matches so far with wins over Anderlecht at home 3-0, along with 3-0 and 2-1 wins over Celtic.
The visitors have suffered just one defeat and that was to a rampant PSG 3-0 away from home, but with the likes of Lewandowski, Muller and Coman up front, they should be way too strong for Anderlecht here.
