Mladenovic survives a tricky opener
Second seed Kristina Mladenovic needed three sets to overcome wildcard entrant Chloe Paquet in the first round of WTA Lyon. Mladenovic had lost the opening set 6-1 so really had to dig deep to turn that around against her compatriot.
She had found herself a break down in the deciding set as well before overcoming her opponent in a great match. Mladenovic was wobbling on her serve, struggling to find her consistency and rhythm.
She’s going to need to step that up to get close to this title. Mladvenovic, who is a former world number 10, is now on to a 6/5 win/loss record for the season.
But she has only won 55% of the service games in 2020.
The French Woman recently won five matches at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, but three of those were in the qualifiers. She lost in the round of sixteen there against 2nd seed Karolina Plsiovia.

She opened in France this week with a straight-sets victory over qualifier Anastasiya Komarinda. That was a very comfortable 6-2, 6-2 victory for her as well in that one.
