Antalyaspor Preview – Can hosts be trusted at such slim odds?

Four successive seasons in Super Lig could come to an end unless a slump stretching back to the beginning of October can be halted. Not since beating one of the better performing teams of this term, when defying some sizeable odds to win 1-0 in Istanbul away to a Fenerbahce side currently fifth in the standings, has Antalyaspor (16th – W3 D4 L8, GF13 GA26) secured maximum points in a league fixture. A barren period spanning eight matches (D2 L6).

The latest of these a goalless affair in Alanyaspor, who were at one stage setting the early pace at the top of the table but have since dropped to seventh. A decent point all things considered. Though it was the sixth occasion this season in which no goal could be found for the team dubbed Akrepler (Scorpions), having now also failed to notch more than once in 12 of their 15 Super Lig encounters.

Antalyaspor have been a little more productive in front of goal when at home however, scoring eight of their thirteen total goals in said fixtures. That is about as positive as it gets, though, with their record on their own patch a dismal W1 D2 L4, GF8 GA16. Their only such win a resounding 3-0 scoreline over Yeni Malatyaspor in September – losing three of four at home since, and by a damning combined aggregate of 3-12.

Ankaragucu Preview – Gala comeback catalyst for revival?

Lost six consecutive league games. Scored only three times across this abysmal spell. Playing the reigning Turkish Super Lig champions – in their own backyard no less. And, to truly top it off, reduced to ten men for the final quarter. Remarkably, despite all of this, bottom of the league Ankaragucu (20th – W2 D4 L9, GF11 GA30) defied some seriously big odds to fight back from 2-0 down to claim a miraculous 2-2 draw away to Galatasaray last week.

If that doesn’t lift the team ahead of this crunch relegation six-pointer, nothing will. Goals in the 88th and 91st minute, at a time in the game when they were playing with a numerical disadvantage, secured them a point in a fixture that served them up a 6-0 thrashing last season. It was also a stunning way to end a dire sequence of six straight defeats in the league.

Now, to build on the euphoria of the last result by earning their first win since the end of September, when recording a 2-1 victory over Genclerbirligi at home. Even a point would be another positive step, considering they have succumbed to five defeats in their previous six away encounters – one of those a recent 5-0 humbling in Alanyaspor at the end of last month, a fixture their upcoming opponents recently earned a 0-0 draw in.

Antalyaspor Vs Ankaragucu – Key Facts:

  • No win for eight league games (D2 L6) is the poor form which the home side, Antalyaspor, bring with them to this fixture.
  • The visitors are in no better shape, however, with Ankaragucu without a win in their last nine league matches (D2 L7).
  • Last season Ankaragucu scored four times in this fixture, prevailing 4-2 as the away side to end a losing streak of three versus Antalyaspor.

Betting Summary

A big battle at the wrong end of Turkey’s Super Lig. It is doubtful whether this will be a thriller, though, with this a contest between two of the worst defences in the league but, conversely, the bluntest attacks also, as both continue to average less a goal scored per game. The pair do, however, average over 60% when it comes to Over 2.5 Goals delivering in their respective home/away matches, which owes much to the porous rearguards on both sides.

Antalyaspor (4/7 Boylesports) are favourites, short at that, despite not winning in eight in the league (D2 L6). That possibly has something to do with Ankaragucu (5/1 Bet365) being in slightly worse shape, without a win in nine (D2 L7). Recent head-to-head meetings are a mixed bag, though, with a couple of 1-0’s and a 3-0, while last season’s corresponding fixture at Antalyaspor produced a 4-2 win for the visitors, who had lost the previous three encounters without so much as scoring.

This selection is of the more speculative variety but, considering the hosts are far too short for a team winless in so long, it could be worth chancing the visitors, who scored four times in victory here last term and could be buoyed by last week’s comeback at Galatasaray.
