It’s been a disastrous start for Partick Thistle who sit bottom of the Championship. Arbroath, on the other hand, have enjoyed an excellent introduction at this level and will be looking for all three points at home.

Arbroath Preview – Are Arbroath going to continue positive start and move into second place with a win?

Before the start of the season Arbroath were one of the prime candidates for automatic relegation and a quick return to League One. Having won that division last season, Dick Campbell’s men have virtually went with the same group of players. It may still be very early in the season but the signs have been positive so far. Four games in and they sit in fourth spot – if Arbroath remain there or better than it would been a finish in the promotion playoffs at worst. Obviously that’s quite a leap at the moment but it’s definitely as good a start as they could have hoped for. Their first couple of games were not as good as their last two, however, managing only one point. A draw at home to Queen of the South followed by a narrow defeat to Inverness would have had them thinking of a long season ahead.

Campbell’s men managed to adjust quickly though and reeled off a couple of 1-0 wins away to Alloa and at home to Dunfermilne. It’s likely that Arbroath will find themselves towards the bottom end of the table as the season progresses but to have seven points from a possible 12 is a great return so early in the season. They continued their good form with a win on penalties over league leaders Dundee United in the Challenge Cup last weekend.

Partick Thistle Preview – Can Thistle build on Challenge Cup win to record first league victory of the season?

Gary Caldwell led Thistle to safety after taking over during the season last season and the expectation was they would be challenging for promotion back to the top-flight. Those expectations may have to be reevaluated even if we’re only four games into the league season. Partick sit bottom of the table and still searching for their first win. Their only point so far came on the opening day of the season when drawing 1-1 away to Alloa. Somewhat incredibly, that is the only league game this season that Partick have conceded the first goal in a game.

It’s that which will frustrate Caldwell the most. His team have taken the lead in all their other games yet not been able to take anything them. A 2-1 defeat at home to Dundee United set the tone for what was to come. A calamitous collapse when two goals up away to Greenock Morton seen them lose 3-2 and despite leading 1-0 and 2-1 at home to Ayr United in their most recent home game they against lost by a single goal. The manager will be hoping that last weekend’s win away to lower league Montrose will instill some much needed confidence and belief in his players – allowing them to see the game out.

Arbroath v Partick Thistle Betting Advice

Had you been asked to place these teams in a league position after four games you would be forgiven for thinking that it would be Partick in fourth and Arbroath propping up the rest of the table. The visitors will know they have to begin to turn things around one game at a time. Arbroath have shown they will be competitive at home this season with four points from six and two clean sheets so far.

Thistle’s biggest issue has been defensively and their inability to keep clean sheets. Their cup form is in stark contrast to what’s happening in the league, but they have shown in spells during games that they are a capable outfit. It’s putting all of it together for 90 minutes. Friday represents a good opportunity for them to do that, so take them to get their first league victory of 2019/20.
