There’s no doubting Gus MacPherson and his Greenock Morton side are in the hot seat. By virtue of an inferior goal difference they sit below Ayr despite being level on points, and it’s unlikely there will be a five goal swing meaning they will essentially have to better Ayr’s result on Friday if they are to avoid the playoffs.
MacPherson – who only took charge of the club in February this year – will at least know that his team cannot aim for anything else other than the three points. But that’s not something they have been familiar with in recent times.
