The first leg between these two finished goalless so it is all to play for as Inverness Caley Thistle travel down from the Highlands to take on Arbroath for a spot in the playoff final.

Arbroath – Can Arbroath lean on their excellent home form and continue what has been a fairy tale season?

Much has been made of Arbroath’s campaign to date and rightly so. The only part-time team in the Championship came agonisingly close to winning the division and gaining a first promotion to the top-flight, losing out to Kilmarnock by two points. Their reward for finishing second (six points above Inverness) is progressing to the semi-final of the playoffs and playing this second leg at home.

Dick Campbell will know that they have to use that freshness and home crowd to their advantage and there is plenty of reason to think they will.

Our betting prediction
Inverness win 1-0 Correct Score

(odds taken 2000 GMT, Thursday 12 May)
Arbroath have lost just one league game at home in the Championship this season. To put that in context, no other team lost less than five home games. The one caveat to that is the only defeat came against Inverness way back on the opening weekend of the season in a 1-0 loss. Since then, Campbell’s men have reeled off nine wins and drawn eight at Gayfield. They were also the highest home scorers as well as having the best overall attack in the Championship.
One of the key reasons for that is striker Michael McKenna. Now in his fifth season at the club, McKenna has notched 15 times in the league, more than the total number of goals he managed in the previous four seasons combined.

Inverness CT Preview – Will Caley Thistle continue their excellent run in their quest for a Premiership return?

Billy Dodds is at the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to managerial jobs compared to his opposite number, with this being his first, but he his making a really good fist of it. Inverness were not expected to be amongst the promotion challengers either but they have been in and round the top three for most of the season and are now a game away from a two-legged final which could see them return to the Premiership for the first time since 2017.

The Highland Jags will take confidence from the fact they are on an excellent run of form heading into this crunch game.

It is now just one defeat in their last 11 matches, and in that time they have won eight in that spell. Two of those wins came in the playoff quarter-final against Partick Thistle, prevailing 3-1 on aggregate. Their away form has also picked up with three wins in their last five, losing only once. Before that Caley Thistle had managed two wins in 12 away games.

Goals are also not a problem in the forward areas. Shane Sutherland and Billy McKay have hit 19 goals between them and one or both could play a pivotal role in this one.

Arbroath vs Inverness CT Betting Advice

It is fitting that third faces second for  chance to contest the playoff final where Premiership St Johnstone lie in wait. And also that there is nothing to choose between Arbroath and Inverness following a very competitive first leg.

Inverness held the upper hand in the head to head during the regular season with two wins compared to Arbroath’s one. They’re also unbeaten in their last three visits to Gayfield.

Key Facts –  Arbroath vs Inverness CT Betting Tip

  • Arbroath only home loss in the league this season came against Inverness, on the opening weekend
  • Inverness have lost just one of their last 11 matches, winning eight of them
  • The winner of this game will face St Johnstone in a two-legged final for a place in the top-flight

It is virtually impossible to separate these two teams and it would be no surprise to see the game either be settled by one goal or even require extra-time or penalties. My selection is for under 2.5 goals. Six of the last seven meetings have finished this way and with all that is at stake, it could be a similar story here.
