Touted as a straight shoot-out between Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku for the Golden Boot, this game represents so much more; a win for Arsenal here gives them a chance at a top four finish (depending on how Liverpool get on against Middlesbrough at Anfield).
With a possible Champions League qualifying spot at stake for The Gunners, manager Arsene Wenger is expected to field his strongest team available with the likes of Sanchez, Giroud and Ozil expected to spearhead their attacking department.
Arsenal have tried their hardest to resurrect a disappointing Premier League though as they’ve collected seven wins from their last nine overall, and having won their last four on the trot with wins over West Ham, Leicester City, Manchester United and Sunderland which included clean sheets to go with them.
Visitors Everton only have pride left to play for in this final day of the Premier League season as their quest for a european spot disappeared in disappointing fashion following some indifferent results in their season run-in.
The Toffees’ last nine league matches saw them record wins over Hull City, Leicester City, Burnley and Watford, but these were all achieved at Goodison Park where they’ve lost just twice all season; however, poor away form ultimately cost them a top five position.
An away record of 4-6-8 19/25 is simply not good enough for a team who hold european ambitions, and this is an area that Everton manager Ronald Koeman must address next season if they’re to improve upon this season’s seventh place finish.
There’s everything to play for where Arsenal are concerned, and I’m expecting them to come out all guns blazing here.
